Cornelio manda llamar a Pedro
10 En Cesarea vivía un oficial del ejército romano llamado Cornelio, capitán de un regimiento italiano. 2 Hombre piadoso, al igual que su familia, daba limosnas a manos llenas para el pueblo de Israel y oraba sin cesar.
3 Un día tuvo una visión. Eran aproximadamente las tres de la tarde. En la visión vio a un ángel de Dios que se le acercaba.
―¡Cornelio! —le dijo el ángel.
4 Cornelio se quedó mirándolo lleno de temor.
―¿Qué quieres, Señor? —le preguntó al ángel mirándolo fijamente.
―Dios no ha pasado por alto tus oraciones ni tus limosnas. 5-6 Envía varios hombres a Jope en busca de un hombre llamado Simón Pedro, que está alojado en casa de Simón el curtidor, junto al mar, y pídele que te venga a visitar.
7 Al irse el ángel, Cornelio llamó a dos de sus sirvientes y a un soldado piadoso miembro de su guardia personal. 8 Tras contarles lo sucedido, los envió a Jope.
La visión de Pedro
9 Al siguiente día, mientras ellos se aproximaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea de la casa a orar. 10 Era mediodía y tenía hambre. Mientras le preparaban el almuerzo, cayó en éxtasis y 11 vio el cielo abierto y un gran lienzo que bajaba a la tierra sostenido por las cuatro puntas. 12 En el lienzo había toda clase de cuadrúpedos, reptiles y pájaros.
13 ―Pedro —le dijo una voz—, mata y come.
14 ―¡Señor, no! —exclamó Pedro—. Jamás he comido animales impuros o inmundos.
15 ―Lo que Dios ha limpiado, no lo llames impuro —le volvió a decir la voz.
16 La misma visión se le presentó tres veces. Luego el lienzo volvió a ser recogido en el cielo.
17 Pedro quedó perplejo. ¿Qué significaría aquella visión?
En aquel preciso momento, los hombres de Cornelio ya habían encontrado la casa y estaban de pie a la puerta, 18 preguntando si allí estaba Simón Pedro.
19 Pedro, que estaba tratando de descifrar el significado de la visión, escuchó que el Espíritu Santo le decía: «Tres hombres han venido a verte. 20 Date prisa, baja y ve con ellos. Yo los he enviado».
21 Pedro bajó entonces.
―Yo soy el hombre que ustedes andan buscando —les dijo—. ¿Qué desean?
22 Entonces le contaron cómo a Cornelio, oficial del ejército romano, hombre bueno y piadoso, de buena reputación entre los judíos, un ángel le había ordenado que mandara a buscar a Pedro para que le dijera lo que Dios quería de él. 23 Pedro entonces los invitó a pasar y los albergó aquella noche.
Pedro en casa de Cornelio
Por la mañana, partió con ellos, acompañado de algunos creyentes de Jope. 24 Llegaron a Cesarea al día siguiente. Cornelio, que los estaba esperando, había reunido a sus familiares y amigos más íntimos. 25 Al entrar a la casa, Cornelio se arrodilló en el suelo delante de él para adorarlo.
26 ―¡Levántate! —le dijo Pedro—. ¡Yo soy un hombre como tú!
27 Tras intercambiar algunas palabras, fueron a donde los demás estaban reunidos.
28 Entonces Pedro les dijo:
―Ustedes saben que al entrar yo aquí estoy quebrantando la ley judía que prohíbe entrar a la casa de un gentil. Pero Dios me ha mostrado en visión que no debo considerar profana o impura a ninguna persona. 29 Por eso vine tan pronto como llegaron a buscarme. Díganme, pues, qué desean.
30 ―Hace cuatro días —contestó Cornelio—, mientras oraba en la tarde como es mi costumbre, se me presentó de pronto un hombre vestido con un manto resplandeciente. 31 “Cornelio”, me dijo, “Dios ha tomado en cuenta tus oraciones y tus limosnas. 32 Envía varios hombres a Jope en busca de Simón Pedro, quien está alojado en casa de Simón el curtidor, junto a la orilla del mar”. 33 En seguida te mandé a buscar, e hiciste bien en venir pronto. Aquí estamos delante del Señor, ansiosos de escuchar lo que él te ha ordenado que nos digas.
34 ―¡Ya veo que para Dios no hay favoritismos! 35 En todas las naciones él ve con agrado a las personas que lo adoran y actúan con justicia. 36-37 Estoy seguro de que ya ustedes habrán oído hablar de las buenas noticias que recibió el pueblo de Israel sobre la paz con Dios, que se puede obtener mediante Jesús el Mesías, Señor de todos. Este mensaje empezó en Galilea y ha estado resonando en Judea desde que Juan el Bautista comenzó a predicar el bautismo.
38 »Dios ungió con el Espíritu Santo y con poder a Jesús de Nazaret y él anduvo haciendo el bien y sanando a los oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él. 39 Nosotros somos testigos de las obras que realizó en todo Israel y en Jerusalén. Allí lo condenaron a morir en la cruz, 40 pero Dios le devolvió la vida al tercer día y lo presentó, 41 no delante de todo el pueblo, sino delante de ciertos testigos que había seleccionado de antemano: nosotros, que comimos y bebimos con él después que resucitó. 42 Él nos envió a predicar al pueblo y a testificar que él es el que Dios ha nombrado juez de todas las personas, vivas o muertas. 43 Los profetas afirmaron que cualquiera que crea en él, alcanzará el perdón de los pecados en virtud de su nombre.
44 Todavía Pedro no había terminado de decir estas cosas, cuando el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre los que lo escuchaban. 45 Los judíos que andaban con Pedro, que eran defensores de la circuncisión, estaban asombrados de que el don del Espíritu Santo lo recibieran también los gentiles, 46 pues los oían hablando en lenguas y alabando a Dios. Entonces Pedro respondió:
47 ―¿Quién puede oponerse a que yo bautice con agua a estas personas que han recibido el Espíritu Santo de la misma forma como lo recibimos nosotros?
48 Y mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesús, el Mesías.
Entonces Cornelio le suplicó que se quedara con ellos varios días.

Si Pedro at si Cornelio
10 Sa Cesarea ay may isang lalaki na ang pangalan ay Cornelio, isang senturion ng tinatawag na pulutong Italiano;
2 isang taong masipag sa kabanalan at may takot sa Diyos kasama ang kanyang buong sambahayan, naglilimos ng marami sa mga tao, at laging nananalangin sa Diyos.
3 Minsan, nang may oras na ikasiyam ng araw,[a] nakita niyang maliwanag sa isang pangitain ang isang anghel ng Diyos na dumarating at sinasabi sa kanya, “Cornelio.”
4 Siya'y tumitig sa kanya na may pagkatakot, at nagsabi, “Ano iyon, Panginoon?” Sinabi sa kanya, “Ang mga panalangin mo at ang iyong mga limos ay umakyat bilang alaala sa harapan ng Diyos.
5 Ngayo'y magsugo ka ng mga tao sa Joppa, at ipatawag mo ang isang Simon na tinatawag na Pedro.
6 Siya'y nanunuluyan kay Simon, isang tagapagluto ng balat, na ang bahay ay nasa tabi ng dagat.”
7 Nang umalis na ang anghel na kumausap sa kanya, tinawag niya ang dalawa sa kanyang mga alila at ang isang tapat na kawal mula sa mga naglilingkod sa kanya.
8 Pagkatapos maisalaysay ang lahat ng mga bagay sa kanila, sila'y isinugo niya sa Joppa.
9 Nang sumunod na araw, nang may oras na ikaanim,[b] samantalang sila'y naglalakbay at malapit na sa lunsod, si Pedro ay umakyat sa itaas ng bahay upang manalangin.
10 Siya'y nagutom at nagnais kumain; subalit samantalang inihahanda nila ito, nawalan siya ng malay
11 at nakita niyang bumukas ang langit, at may isang bagay na bumababa, tulad ng isang malapad na kumot na ibinababa sa lupa na nakabitin sa apat na sulok.
12 Naroroon ang lahat ng uri ng mga hayop na may apat na paa at ang mga gumagapang sa lupa at ang mga ibon sa himpapawid.
13 Dumating sa kanya ang isang tinig, “Tumindig ka, Pedro; magkatay ka at kumain.”
14 Subalit sinabi ni Pedro, “Hindi maaari, Panginoon; sapagkat kailanma'y hindi ako kumain ng anumang bagay na marumi at karumaldumal.”
15 Muling dumating sa kanya ang tinig sa ikalawang pagkakataon, “Ang nilinis ng Diyos ay huwag mong ituring na marumi.”
16 Ito'y nangyari ng tatlong ulit, at ang bagay ay agad binatak pataas sa langit.
17 Samantalang naguguluhan si Pedro sa kanyang sarili, kung ano ang kahulugan ng pangitaing kanyang nakita, biglang dumating ang mga taong sinugo ni Cornelio. Nang maipagtanong ang bahay ni Simon, tumayo sila sa harapan ng pintuan.
18 Tumawag sila upang magtanong kung si Simon, na tinatawag na Pedro, ay nanunuluyan doon.
19 Samantalang iniisip ni Pedro ang tungkol sa pangitain, sinabi sa kanya ng Espiritu, “Tingnan mo, may tatlong taong naghahanap sa iyo.
20 Tumindig ka, bumaba ka at sumama sa kanila na walang pag-aatubili sapagkat sila'y aking sinugo.”
21 Bumaba si Pedro at sinabi sa mga tao, “Ako ang hinahanap ninyo; ano ang dahilan ng inyong pagparito?”
22 Sinabi nila, “Si Cornelio na isang senturion, isang taong matuwid at may takot sa Diyos, at may mabuting patotoo sa buong bansa ng mga Judio, ay pinagbilinan ng isang banal na anghel na ikaw ay ipatawag sa kanyang bahay upang marinig ang iyong mga salita.”
23 Kaya't sila'y pinatuloy niya at naging kanyang panauhin. Nang sumunod na araw, bumangon siya at umalis na kasama nila, at siya'y sinamahan ng ilang kapatid mula sa Joppa.
24 Nang sumunod na araw ay dumating sila sa Cesarea. Sila'y hinihintay ni Cornelio, at tinipon ang kanyang mga kamag-anak at ang kanyang malalapit na kaibigan.
25 Pagpasok ni Pedro, sinalubong siya ni Cornelio at nagpatirapa sa kanyang paanan, at siya'y sinamba.
26 Ngunit pinatayo siya ni Pedro, na sinasabi, “Tumayo ka, ako man ay tao rin.”
27 At habang nakikipag-usap sa kanya, pumasok siya at kanyang naratnan ang maraming taong nagkakatipon.
28 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Nalalaman ninyo na hindi ipinahihintulot sa isang Judio na makisama o lumapit sa isang banyaga; ngunit ipinakita sa akin ng Diyos, na huwag kong tawagin ang isang tao na marumi o karumaldumal.
29 Kaya't nang ipasundo ako, sumama ako nang walang pagtutol. Ngayon, itinatanong ko kung bakit mo ako ipinasundo.”
30 Sinabi ni Cornelio, “Apat na araw na ang nakakaraan, mga ganitong oras, nang ikasiyam na oras,[c] ako'y nananalangin sa aking bahay nang biglang tumindig sa harapan ko ang isang lalaki na may nagniningning na damit.
31 Sinabi niya, ‘Cornelio, dininig ang dalangin mo, at ang iyong mga limos ay inalala sa harapan ng Diyos.
32 Magsugo ka sa Joppa, at ipatawag mo si Simon, na tinatawag na Pedro. Siya'y nanunuluyan sa bahay ni Simon na tagapagluto ng balat sa tabi ng dagat.’
33 Kaya't agad kitang ipinasundo, at mabuti ang ginawa mo na naparito ka. Ngayon kaming lahat ay naririto sa harapan ng Diyos, upang pakinggan ang lahat ng mga bagay na ipinag-utos sa iyo ng Panginoon.”
Nangaral si Pedro
34 Nagsimulang magsalita(A) si Pedro at kanyang sinabi, “Tunay ngang nauunawaan ko na walang kinikilingan ang Diyos,
35 kundi sa bawat bansa ang sinumang may takot sa kanya at gumagawa ng matuwid ay kalugud-lugod sa kanya.
36 Nalalaman ninyo ang salita na kanyang ipinadala sa mga anak ni Israel, na ipinangangaral ang magandang balita ng kapayapaan sa pamamagitan ni Jesu-Cristo—siya'y Panginoon ng lahat,
37 nalalaman ninyo na ipinahayag ang salitang iyon sa buong Judea, simula sa Galilea, pagkatapos ng bautismo na ipinangaral ni Juan:
38 kung paanong si Jesus na taga-Nazaret ay binuhusan ng Diyos ng Espiritu Santo at ng kapangyarihan; kung paanong naglibot siya na gumagawa ng mabuti, at nagpapagaling ng lahat ng mga pinahihirapan ng diyablo, sapagkat kasama niya ang Diyos.
39 Mga saksi kami sa lahat ng mga bagay na ginawa niya sa lupain ng Judea, at sa Jerusalem. Siya'y kanila ring pinatay nang kanilang ibitin siya sa isang punungkahoy.
40 Siya'y muling binuhay ng Diyos sa ikatlong araw, at siya'y hinayaang mahayag;
41 hindi sa buong bayan, kundi sa amin na hinirang ng Diyos bilang mga saksi na kumain at uminom na kasalo niya, pagkatapos na siya'y mabuhay mula sa mga patay.
42 Sa ami'y ipinagbilin niya na mangaral sa mga tao at sumaksi na siya ang itinalaga ng Diyos na maging hukom ng mga buháy at ng mga patay.
43 Siya ang pinatotohanan ng lahat ng mga propeta, na ang bawat sumasampalataya sa kanya ay makakatanggap ng kapatawaran sa mga kasalanan sa pamamagitan ng kanyang pangalan.”
Ipinagkaloob ang Espiritu sa mga Hentil
44 Samantalang sinasabi pa ni Pedro ang mga salitang ito, bumaba ang Espiritu Santo sa lahat ng nakikinig ng salita.
45 Ang mga mananampalatayang Judio[d] na dumating na kasama ni Pedro ay namangha sapagkat ibinuhos din maging sa mga Hentil ang kaloob ng Espiritu Santo.
46 Sapagkat narinig nilang nagsasalita ang mga ito ng mga wika at nagpupuri sa Diyos. Nang magkagayo'y ipinahayag ni Pedro,
47 “Maaari bang hadlangan ng sinuman ang tubig upang huwag mabautismuhan itong mga tumanggap ng Espiritu Santo na gaya naman natin?”
48 At kanyang inutusan sila na mabautismuhan sa pangalan ni Jesu-Cristo. Pagkatapos, siya'y pinakiusapan nilang manatili ng mga ilang araw.

10 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and he had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
