La visión del romano Cornelio
10 Vivía en Cesarea un romano llamado Cornelio, capitán del batallón que llevaba el nombre de “el Itálico”. 2 Era hombre religioso y, junto con su familia, rendía culto al Dios verdadero. Ayudaba generosamente con sus limosnas al pueblo necesitado y oraba a Dios continuamente. 3 Un día, sobre las tres de la tarde, tuvo una visión en la que vio claramente a un ángel de Dios que se dirigió a él y le dijo:
— ¡Cornelio!
4 Atemorizado, miró fijamente al ángel y le preguntó:
— ¿Qué quieres, Señor?
El ángel le contestó:
— Dios ha tomado en consideración tus oraciones y tus limosnas. 5 Por tanto, envía en seguida alguien a Jope que haga venir aquí a un tal Simón, a quien se conoce también como Pedro. 6 Actualmente está hospedado en casa de otro Simón, un curtidor que vive junto al mar. 7 Apenas salió el ángel que le había hablado, Cornelio llamó a dos criados y a uno de sus soldados asistentes que era hombre religioso, 8 los puso en antecedentes de todo lo ocurrido y los mandó a Jope.
La visión de Pedro
9 Al día siguiente, mientras los enviados iban aún de camino, ya cerca de la ciudad, Pedro subió a la terraza para orar a eso del mediodía. 10 De pronto, sintió hambre y quiso comer algo. Estaban preparándoselo, cuando cayó en éxtasis 11 y vio que el cielo se abría y que algo así como un enorme mantel descendía, colgado de sus cuatro puntas, y se posaba sobre la tierra. 12 Había en él toda clase de cuadrúpedos, reptiles y aves. 13 Y oyó una voz que le decía:
— ¡Anda, Pedro, mata y come!
14 — De ninguna manera, Señor —respondió Pedro—. Jamás he comido nada profano o impuro.
15 La voz se oyó por segunda vez:
— Lo que Dios ha purificado, no lo consideres tú profano.
16 Esto se repitió hasta tres veces y, a continuación, aquel objeto fue subido al cielo.
17 Estaba Pedro perplejo preguntándose qué significado tendría la visión, cuando los enviados de Cornelio, tras averiguar dónde estaba la casa de Simón, se presentaron a la puerta 18 y preguntaron en voz alta:
— ¿Se aloja aquí Simón, al que llaman Pedro?
19 Entonces el Espíritu dijo a Pedro, que seguía preguntándose intrigado por el sentido de la visión:
— Ahí abajo hay tres hombres que te buscan. 20 Baja en seguida y acompáñalos. No tengas ningún reparo, porque los he enviado yo.
21 Pedro bajó al encuentro de aquellos hombres y les dijo:
— Yo soy el que ustedes buscan. ¿A qué se debe la visita?
22 — Venimos de parte del capitán Cornelio —respondieron—. Es un hombre recto que rinde culto al verdadero Dios y a quien todos los judíos aprecian de veras. Un ángel de Dios le ha indicado que te haga llegar a su casa para oír lo que tengas que decirle.
23 Pedro los invitó a pasar la noche allí y, al día siguiente, se puso en camino con ellos, acompañado por algunos hermanos de Jope.
Pedro en casa de Cornelio
24 Un día después llegaron a Cesarea, donde Cornelio estaba ya esperándolos junto con sus familiares y amigos íntimos. 25 Cuando llegó Pedro, salió a recibirlo y se postró a sus pies en actitud de adoración.
26 — Ponte de pie —le dijo Pedro mientras lo ayudaba a levantarse—, pues también yo soy simplemente un hombre.
27 Entraron en la casa conversando y Pedro dijo a las numerosas personas que encontró reunidas allí:
28 — Como saben, a un judío le está prohibido relacionarse con extranjeros o entrar en sus casas. Pero Dios me ha hecho comprender que a nadie debo considerar profano o impuro. 29 Por eso, no tuve inconveniente en venir cuando ustedes me llamaron. Deseo saber por qué razón me han hecho venir.
30 Entonces Cornelio respondió:
— Hace cuatro días, a esta misma hora, estaba yo aquí en mi casa ocupado en la oración de la tarde, cuando, de pronto, se presentó ante mí un hombre vestido con una túnica resplandeciente. 31 Me dijo: “Cornelio, Dios ha escuchado tu oración y ha tenido en cuenta tu generosidad con los pobres. 32 Por tanto, envía a alguien a Jope para que haga venir a Simón, a quien se conoce también como Pedro; se hospeda en casa de otro Simón, un curtidor que vive junto al mar”. 33 De modo que mandé en seguida a buscarte, y tú te has dignado venir. Aquí, pues, nos tienes a todos, en presencia de Dios, dispuestos a escuchar todo cuanto el Señor te haya encargado decirnos.
Discurso de Pedro
34 Pedro tomó entonces la palabra y se expresó en estos términos:
— Ahora comprendo verdaderamente que para Dios no existen favoritismos. 35 Toda persona, sea de la nación que sea, si es fiel a Dios y se porta rectamente, goza de su estima. 36 Fue Dios quien dirigió su mensaje a los israelitas y les anunció la buena noticia de la paz por medio de Jesucristo, que es el Señor de todos. 37 Hablo —ya saben— de lo acaecido a lo largo y ancho de todo el país judío, comenzando por Galilea, después que Juan proclamó su bautismo. 38 De cómo Dios ungió a Jesús de Nazaret con el Espíritu Santo y lo llenó de poder; de cómo Jesús pasó por todas partes haciendo el bien y curando a todos los que padecían oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él. 39 Y nosotros somos testigos de todo lo que hizo en territorio judío, especialmente en Jerusalén. Después lo mataron colgándolo de un madero. 40 Pero Dios lo resucitó al tercer día y le permitió aparecerse, 41 no a todo el pueblo, sino a nosotros los que fuimos escogidos de antemano por Dios como testigos y tuvimos ocasión de comer y beber con Jesús después que resucitó de la muerte. 42 Pues bien, Jesús ha sido quien nos ha mandado anunciar su mensaje al pueblo y proclamar que Dios lo ha constituido juez de vivos y muertos. 43 Y los profetas, por su parte, testifican unánimemente que todo el que crea en él alcanzará, por su medio, el perdón de los pecados.
También los no judíos reciben el Espíritu Santo
44 Todavía estaba Pedro exponiendo estas razones, cuando el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre todos los que oían el mensaje. 45 Los creyentes judíos que habían llegado con Pedro estaban sorprendidos de que también sobre los no judíos se derramase el don del Espíritu Santo. 46 Los oían, en efecto, hablar en idiomas desconocidos y proclamar la grandeza de Dios. Pedro dijo entonces:
47 — ¿Puede negarse el bautismo a estas personas que han recibido, como nosotros, el Espíritu Santo?
48 Seguidamente dispuso que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo. Ellos, por su parte, le rogaron que se quedara allí algunos días.

Cornelio manda llamar a Pedro
10 Vivía en Cesarea un centurión llamado Cornelio del regimiento conocido como el Italiano. 2 Él y toda su familia eran devotos y temerosos de Dios. Realizaba muchas obras de beneficencia para el pueblo de Israel y oraba a Dios constantemente. 3 Un día, como a las tres de la tarde,[a] tuvo una visión. Vio claramente a un ángel de Dios que se acercaba y le decía:
—¡Cornelio!
4 —¿Qué quieres, Señor? —preguntó Cornelio, mirándolo fijamente y con mucho miedo.
—Dios ha recibido tus oraciones y tus obras de beneficencia como una ofrenda —contestó el ángel—. 5 Envía de inmediato a algunos hombres a Jope para que hagan venir a un tal Simón, también llamado Pedro. 6 Él se hospeda con Simón el curtidor, que tiene su casa junto al mar.
7 Después de que se fue el ángel que le había hablado, Cornelio llamó a dos de sus siervos y a un soldado devoto de los que le servían regularmente. 8 Les explicó todo lo que había sucedido y los envió a Jope.
La visión de Pedro
9 Al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban de camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea a orar. Era casi el mediodía.[b] 10 Sintió hambre y quiso algo de comer. Mientras le preparaban la comida, tuvo una visión. 11 Vio el cielo abierto y algo parecido a una gran sábana que, suspendida por las cuatro puntas, descendía hacia la tierra. 12 En ella había toda clase de cuadrúpedos, como también reptiles y aves.
13 —Levántate, Pedro, mata y come —le dijo una voz.
14 —¡De ninguna manera, Señor! —respondió Pedro—. Jamás he comido nada impuro o inmundo.
15 Por segunda vez le insistió la voz:
—Lo que Dios ha purificado, tú no lo llames impuro.
16 Esto sucedió tres veces y enseguida la sábana fue recogida al cielo.
17 Pedro no atinaba a explicarse cuál podría ser el significado de la visión. Mientras tanto, los hombres enviados por Cornelio, que estuvieron preguntando por la casa de Simón, se presentaron a la puerta. 18 Llamaron y preguntaron si allí se hospedaba Simón, apodado Pedro.
19 Mientras Pedro seguía reflexionando sobre el significado de la visión, el Espíritu le dijo: «Mira, Simón, tres[c] hombres te buscan. 20 Date prisa, baja y no dudes en ir con ellos, porque yo los he enviado».
21 Pedro bajó y dijo a los hombres:
—Aquí estoy; yo soy el que ustedes buscan. ¿Qué asunto los ha traído por acá?
22 Ellos contestaron:
—Venimos de parte del centurión Cornelio, un hombre justo y temeroso de Dios, respetado por todo el pueblo judío. Un ángel de Dios le dio instrucciones de invitarlo a usted a su casa para escuchar lo que usted tiene que decirle.
23 Entonces Pedro los invitó a pasar y los hospedó.
Pedro en casa de Cornelio
Al día siguiente, Pedro se fue con ellos acompañado de algunos creyentes de Jope. 24 Un día después llegó a Cesarea. Cornelio estaba esperándolo con los parientes y amigos íntimos que había reunido. 25 Al llegar Pedro a la casa, Cornelio salió a recibirlo y postrándose delante de él, le rindió homenaje. 26 Pero Pedro hizo que se levantara y dijo:
—Ponte de pie, que solo soy un hombre como tú.
27 Pedro entró en la casa conversando con él y encontró a muchos reunidos.
28 Entonces les habló así:
—Ustedes saben muy bien que nuestra Ley prohíbe que un judío se junte con un extranjero o lo visite. Pero Dios me ha hecho ver que a nadie debo llamar impuro o inmundo. 29 Por eso, cuando mandaron por mí, vine sin poner ninguna objeción. Ahora permítanme preguntarles: ¿para qué me hicieron venir?
30 Cornelio contestó:
—Hace tres días a esta misma hora, las tres de la tarde, estaba yo en casa orando.[d] De repente apareció delante de mí un hombre vestido con ropa brillante 31 y me dijo: “Cornelio, Dios ha oído tu oración y se ha acordado de tus obras de beneficencia. 32 Por lo tanto, envía a alguien a Jope para hacer venir a Simón, llamado Pedro, que se hospeda en casa de Simón el curtidor, junto al mar”. 33 Así que inmediatamente mandé a llamarte y tú has tenido la bondad de venir. Ahora estamos todos aquí, en la presencia de Dios, para escuchar todo lo que el Señor te ha encomendado que nos digas.
34 Pedro tomó la palabra y dijo:
—Ahora comprendo que en realidad para Dios no hay favoritismos, 35 sino que en toda nación él ve con agrado a los que le temen y actúan con justicia. 36 Dios envió su mensaje al pueblo de Israel, anunciando las buenas noticias de la paz por medio de Jesucristo, que es el Señor de todos. 37 Ustedes conocen este mensaje que se difundió por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que predicó Juan. 38 Me refiero a Jesús de Nazaret: cómo lo ungió Dios con el Espíritu Santo y con poder, y cómo anduvo haciendo el bien y sanando a todos los que estaban oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él. 39 Nosotros somos testigos de todo lo que hizo en la tierra de los judíos y en Jerusalén. Lo mataron, colgándolo de un madero, 40 pero Dios lo resucitó al tercer día y dispuso que se apareciera, 41 no a todo el pueblo, sino a nosotros, testigos previamente escogidos por Dios, que comimos y bebimos con él después de su resurrección. 42 Él nos mandó a predicar al pueblo y a dar solemne testimonio de que ha sido nombrado por Dios como juez de vivos y muertos. 43 De él dan testimonio todos los profetas: que todo el que cree en él recibe, por medio de su nombre, el perdón de los pecados.
44 Mientras Pedro estaba todavía hablando, el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre todos los que escuchaban el mensaje. 45 Los creyentes judíos que habían llegado con Pedro se quedaron asombrados de que el don del Espíritu Santo se hubiera derramado también sobre los no judíos, 46 pues los oían hablar en lenguas y alabar a Dios. Entonces Pedro respondió:
47 —¿Acaso puede alguien negar el agua para que sean bautizados estos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo lo mismo que nosotros?
48 Y mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo. Entonces le pidieron que se quedara con ellos algunos días.

10 In Cäsarea lebte aber ein Mann namens Kornelius, ein Hauptmann der Schar, die man »die Italische« nennt;
2 der war fromm und gottesfürchtig mit seinem ganzen Haus und gab dem Volk viele Almosen und betete ohne Unterlass zu Gott.
3 Der sah um die neunte Stunde des Tages in einem Gesicht deutlich einen Engel Gottes zu ihm hereinkommen, der zu ihm sprach: Kornelius!
4 Er aber blickte ihn an, erschrak und sprach: Was ist, Herr? Er sprach zu ihm: Deine Gebete und deine Almosen sind hinaufgekommen vor Gott, sodass er ihrer gedacht hat!
5 Und nun sende Männer nach Joppe und lass Simon holen mit dem Beinamen Petrus.
6 Dieser ist zu Gast bei einem Gerber Simon, dessen Haus am Meer liegt; der wird dir sagen, was du tun sollst!
7 Als nun der Engel, der mit Kornelius redete, hinweggegangen war, rief er zwei seiner Hausknechte und einen gottesfürchtigen Kriegsknecht von denen, die stets um ihn waren,
8 und erzählte ihnen alles und sandte sie nach Joppe.

9 Am folgenden Tag aber, als jene auf dem Weg waren und sich der Stadt näherten, stieg Petrus auf das Dach, um zu beten, etwa um die sechste Stunde[a].
10 Da wurde er sehr hungrig und wollte essen. Während man aber etwas zubereitete, kam eine Verzückung[b] über ihn.
11 Und er sah den Himmel geöffnet und ein Gefäß zu ihm herabkommen, wie ein großes, leinenes Tuch, das an vier Enden gebunden war und auf die Erde niedergelassen wurde;
12 darin waren all die vierfüßigen Tiere der Erde und die Raubtiere und die kriechenden Tiere und die Vögel des Himmels.
13 Und eine Stimme sprach zu ihm: Steh auf, Petrus, schlachte und iss!
14 Petrus aber sprach: Keineswegs, Herr! denn ich habe noch nie etwas Gemeines oder Unreines[c] gegessen!
15 Und eine Stimme [sprach] wiederum, zum zweiten Mal, zu ihm: Was Gott gereinigt hat, das halte du nicht für gemein!
16 Dies geschah dreimal, und dann wurde das Gefäß wieder in den Himmel hinaufgezogen.
17 Als aber Petrus bei sich selbst ganz ungewiss war, was das Gesicht bedeuten solle, das er gesehen hatte, siehe, da standen die von Kornelius abgesandten Männer, die das Haus Simons erfragt hatten, am Toreingang;
18 und sie riefen und erkundigten sich, ob Simon mit dem Beinamen Petrus hier zu Gast sei.
19 Während nun Petrus über das Gesicht nachdachte, sprach der Geist zu ihm: Siehe, drei Männer suchen dich!
20 Darum steh auf, steige hinab und ziehe ohne Bedenken mit ihnen, denn ich habe sie gesandt!
21 Da ging Petrus zu den Männern hinab, die von Kornelius zu ihm gesandt worden waren, und sprach: Siehe, ich bin der, den ihr sucht. Was ist der Grund für euer Kommen?
22 Sie aber sprachen: Kornelius, der Hauptmann, ein gerechter und gottesfürchtiger Mann, der ein gutes Zeugnis hat bei dem ganzen Volk der Juden, hat von einem heiligen Engel die Weisung erhalten, dich in sein Haus holen zu lassen, um Worte von dir zu hören.
23 Da rief er sie herein und beherbergte sie. Am folgenden Tag aber zog Petrus mit ihnen, und etliche Brüder von Joppe gingen mit ihm.
Die Bekehrung des Kornelius
24 Und am anderen Tag kamen sie nach Cäsarea. Kornelius aber wartete auf sie und hatte seine Verwandten und seine vertrauten Freunde zusammengerufen.
25 Als nun Petrus gerade hineinkam, ging ihm Kornelius entgegen und fiel ihm zu Füßen und huldigte ihm.
26 Petrus aber richtete ihn auf und sprach: Steh auf; auch ich bin ein Mensch!
27 Und während er sich mit ihm unterredete, ging er hinein und fand viele versammelt.
28 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr wisst, dass es einem jüdischen Mann nicht erlaubt ist, mit einem Angehörigen eines anderen Volkes zu verkehren oder sich ihm zu nahen; doch mir hat Gott gezeigt, dass ich keinen Menschen gemein oder unrein nennen soll.
29 Darum bin ich auch ohne Widerrede gekommen, als ich hergerufen wurde. Und nun frage ich: Aus welchem Grund habt ihr mich gerufen?
30 Und Kornelius sprach: Vor vier Tagen fastete ich bis zu dieser Stunde, und ich betete um die neunte Stunde in meinem Haus. Und siehe, da stand ein Mann in glänzender Kleidung vor mir
31 und sprach: Kornelius, dein Gebet ist erhört, und deiner Almosen ist vor Gott gedacht worden!
32 Darum sende nach Joppe und lass Simon mit dem Beinamen Petrus holen; dieser ist zu Gast im Haus Simons, eines Gerbers, am Meer; der wird zu dir reden, wenn er kommt.
33 Da sandte ich auf der Stelle zu dir, und du hast wohl daran getan zu kommen. So sind wir nun alle gegenwärtig vor dem Angesicht Gottes, um alles zu hören, was dir von Gott aufgetragen ist!
34 Da tat Petrus den Mund auf und sprach: Nun erfahre ich in Wahrheit, dass Gott die Person nicht ansieht,
35 sondern dass in jedem Volk derjenige ihm angenehm ist, der ihn fürchtet und Gerechtigkeit übt!
36 Das Wort, das er den Kindern Israels gesandt hat, indem er Frieden verkünden ließ durch Jesus Christus — welcher Herr über alle ist —,
37 ihr kennt es; das Zeugnis, das sich durch ganz Judäa verbreitet hat und in Galiläa anfing nach der Taufe, die Johannes verkündigte:
38 wie Gott Jesus von Nazareth mit Heiligem Geist und Kraft gesalbt hat, und wie dieser umherzog und Gutes tat und alle heilte, die vom Teufel überwältigt waren; denn Gott war mit ihm.
39 Und wir sind Zeugen alles dessen, was er im Land der Juden und in Jerusalem getan hat. Ihn haben sie getötet, indem sie ihn ans Holz[d] hängten.
40 Diesen hat Gott auferweckt am dritten Tag und hat ihn offenbar werden lassen,
41 nicht dem ganzen Volk, sondern uns, den von Gott vorher erwählten Zeugen, die wir mit ihm gegessen und getrunken haben nach seiner Auferstehung aus den Toten.
42 Und er hat uns geboten, dem Volk zu verkündigen und zu bezeugen, dass Er der von Gott bestimmte Richter der Lebendigen und der Toten ist.
43 Von diesem legen alle Propheten Zeugnis ab, dass jeder, der an ihn glaubt, durch seinen Namen Vergebung der Sünden empfängt.
44 Während Petrus noch diese Worte redete, fiel der Heilige Geist auf alle, die das Wort hörten.
45 Und alle Gläubigen aus der Beschneidung[e], die mit Petrus gekommen waren, gerieten außer sich vor Staunen, dass die Gabe[f] des Heiligen Geistes auch über die Heiden ausgegossen wurde.
46 Denn sie hörten sie in Sprachen reden und Gott hochpreisen. Da ergriff Petrus das Wort:
47 Kann auch jemand diesen das Wasser verwehren, dass sie nicht getauft werden sollten, die den Heiligen Geist empfangen haben gleichwie wir?
48 Und er befahl, dass sie getauft würden im Namen des Herrn. Da baten sie ihn, etliche Tage zu bleiben.

Cornelius Calls for Peter
10 At Caesarea(A) there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. 2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing;(B) he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. 3 One day at about three in the afternoon(C) he had a vision.(D) He distinctly saw an angel(E) of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”
4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked.
The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering(F) before God.(G) 5 Now send men to Joppa(H) to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. 6 He is staying with Simon the tanner,(I) whose house is by the sea.”
7 When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. 8 He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.(J)

9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof(L) to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.(M) 11 He saw heaven opened(N) and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14 “Surely not, Lord!”(O) Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”(P)
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”(Q)
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision,(R) the men sent by Cornelius(S) found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision,(T) the Spirit said(U) to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”(V)
21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man,(W) who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”(X) 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.
Peter at Cornelius’s House
The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers(Y) from Joppa went along.(Z) 24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea.(AA) Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”(AB)
27 While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.(AC) 28 He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile.(AD) But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.(AE) 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes(AF) stood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ 33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism(AG) 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.(AH) 36 You know the message(AI) God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news(AJ) of peace(AK) through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.(AL) 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed(AM) Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing(AN) all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.(AO)
39 “We are witnesses(AP) of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross,(AQ) 40 but God raised him from the dead(AR) on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people,(AS) but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate(AT) and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people(AU) and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.(AV) 43 All the prophets testify about him(AW) that everyone(AX) who believes(AY) in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”(AZ)
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on(BA) all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter(BB) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out(BC) even on Gentiles.(BD) 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b](BE) and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water.(BF) They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”(BG) 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.(BH) Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

10 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and he had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
