²⁷ Just as people are destined to die once,^(A) and after that to face judgment,^{(B) 28} so Christ was sacrificed once^(C) to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time,^(D) not to bear sin,^(E) but to bring salvation^(F) to those who are waiting for him.^(G)

¹⁹ If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.^(A)

²⁰ But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead,^(B) the firstfruits^(C) of those who have fallen asleep.^{(D) 21} For since death came through a man,^(E) the resurrection of the dead^(F) comes also through a man. ²² For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.^(G)
