27 Just as people are destined to die once,(A) and after that to face judgment,(B) 28 so Christ was sacrificed once(C) to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time,(D) not to bear sin,(E) but to bring salvation(F) to those who are waiting for him.(G)

Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All

10 The law is only a shadow(H) of the good things(I) that are coming—not the realities themselves.(J) For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect(K) those who draw near to worship.(L) Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.(M) But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins.(N) It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats(O) to take away sins.(P)

Therefore, when Christ came into the world,(Q) he said:

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;(R)
with burnt offerings and sin offerings
    you were not pleased.
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll(S)
I have come to do your will, my God.’”[a](T)
