¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit^(A) offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our^[a] consciences from dead works so that we can serve the living God?^(B)

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive^(A) us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹⁰ Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us^(A) and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice^[a](B) for our sins. ¹¹ Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another.^(C)
