Hebrews 8

8 Now in the things which we are saying, the main point is this: we have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a servant of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord pitched, not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer. 4 For if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, seeing there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law, 5 who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Moses was warned by God when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, “See, you shall make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.”(A) 6 But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on better promises has been given as law.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 For finding fault with them, he said,
“Behold,[a] the days are coming”, says the Lord,
“that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt;
for they didn’t continue in my covenant,
and I disregarded them,” says the Lord.
10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days,” says the Lord:
“I will put my laws into their mind;
I will also write them on their heart.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11 They will not teach every man his fellow citizen[b]
and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for all will know me,
from their least to their greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness.
I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.”(B)
13 In that he says, “A new covenant”, he has made the first obsolete. But that which is becoming obsolete and grows aged is near to vanishing away.

El sumo sacerdote de un nuevo pacto
8 Lo más importante de lo que estamos diciendo es que tenemos un sumo sacerdote que se sentó a la derecha del trono de Dios en el cielo 2 y oficia en el santuario. Es decir, en el verdadero lugar de adoración que fue hecho por el Señor y no por ningún ser humano. 3 A cada sumo sacerdote se le nombra para presentar ofrendas y sacrificios, y por eso es necesario que también él tenga algo que ofrecer. 4 Si Jesús estuviera en la tierra, no sería sacerdote, pues aquí ya hay sacerdotes que presentan las ofrendas como lo ordena la ley. 5 Estos sacerdotes sirven en un santuario que es copia y sombra del que está en el cielo. Porque así fue como se le advirtió a Moisés cuando iba a construir el santuario: «Pon atención y hazlo todo de acuerdo con el modelo que se te ha mostrado en la montaña». 6 Pero el trabajo sacerdotal que Jesús ha recibido es mucho mejor que el de ellos; y así, por medio de él, tenemos un pacto mucho mejor, ya que está basado en mejores promesas.
7 Si el primer pacto hubiera sido perfecto, no habría sido necesario un segundo pacto. 8 Pero Dios les reprochó sus defectos y dijo:
«Llegará el día, —dice el Señor—, en que haré un nuevo pacto con el pueblo de Israel y con el pueblo de Judá.
9 No será como el pacto que hice con sus antepasados el día en que de la mano los saqué de Egipto, pues porque ellos no cumplieron con mi pacto, yo los abandoné, —dice el Señor—.
10 Por eso, este es el pacto que haré con el pueblo de Israel después de aquellos días, —dice el Señor—:
Escribiré mis leyes en su mente y en su corazón. Yo seré su Dios, y ellos serán mi pueblo. 11 Ya no será necesario que nadie enseñe a su prójimo ni a su hermano y le diga: “¡Conoce al Señor!”, porque todos me conocerán, desde el más pequeño hasta el más grande.
12 Yo les perdonaré sus maldades y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados».
13 Decir que este pacto es nuevo significa que consideramos viejo al anterior, y lo que se vuelve viejo e inútil está por desaparecer.

8 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
