A Better Promise
8 The main point of what we are saying is this: We have the kind of high priest who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven. 2 He is the minister in the Holy Place, which is the true sanctuary, which the Lord set up, not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices, and for that reason this priest also needed to have something that he offered.
4 If this priest were on earth, he would not even be a priest, because there are priests[a] who are designated by the law to offer gifts. 5 They serve at a place that is a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, a place exactly like that about which Moses was told when he was about to complete the tent.[b] For God said, “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”[c]
6 But now, Jesus has obtained a ministry that is as much superior as the covenant that he mediates is better, because it has been established on the basis of better promises. 7 Indeed, if that first covenant were without fault, there would have been no reason to look for a second. 8 But because God found fault with the people, he said:[d]
Look, the days are coming, says the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.
9 It will not be like the covenant
that I made with their forefathers
at the time when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt.
Because they did not remember my covenant,
I ignored them, says the Lord.
10 This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord.
I will put my laws into their mind,
and I will write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11 Never again will a man teach his fellow citizen[e]
or his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,”
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful in regard to their unrighteousness,
and I will not remember their sins any longer.[f]
13 When God said “new,” he made the first covenant obsolete, and something that is obsolete and growing old is going to disappear.

8 Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: that we have such a High Priest Who sits at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in Heaven,
2 and is a Minister of the Sanctuary, and of the true Tabernacle (which the Lord pitched, and not man).
3 For every High Priest is ordained to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore, it was necessary that this Man also have something to offer.
4 For if He were on the Earth, He would not be a priest, seeing there are priests that offer gifts according to the Law,
5 who serve the pattern and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was instructed by God when he was about to finish the Tabernacle. “See,” said He, “that you make all things according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”
6 But now, our High Priest has obtained a more excellent office, inasmuch as He is the Mediator of a better Testament, which is established upon better promises.
7 For if that first Testament had been blameless, no place would have been sought for the second.
8 For in rebuking them He said, “‘Behold, the days will come,’ says the Lord, ‘when I shall make a new Testament with the House of Israel and with the House of Judah -
9 ‘unlike the Testament that I made with their fathers on the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my Testament. And I disregarded them,’ says the Lord.
10 “For this is the Testament that I will make with the House of Israel, ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put My Laws in their mind, And I will write them on their heart. And I will be their God. And they shall be my people.
11 ‘And no one shall teach his neighbor, or every man his brother, saying, “Know the Lord.” For all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
12 ‘For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness. And I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.’”
13 In saying, “a New Testament”, He has rendered the first obsolete. Now that which has aged and grown old is ready to vanish.

El mediador de un nuevo pacto
8 Ahora bien, el punto principal de lo que venimos diciendo es que tenemos tal sumo sacerdote, el cual se sentó a la diestra del trono de la Majestad en los cielos,(A) 2 ministro del santuario, y de aquel verdadero tabernáculo que levantó el Señor, y no el hombre. 3 Porque todo sumo sacerdote está constituido para presentar ofrendas y sacrificios; por lo cual es necesario que también este tenga algo que ofrecer. 4 Así que, si estuviese sobre la tierra, ni siquiera sería sacerdote, habiendo aún sacerdotes que presentan las ofrendas según la ley; 5 los cuales sirven a lo que es figura y sombra de las cosas celestiales, como se le advirtió a Moisés cuando iba a erigir el tabernáculo, diciéndole: Mira, haz todas las cosas conforme al modelo que se te ha mostrado en el monte.(B) 6 Pero ahora tanto mejor ministerio es el suyo, cuanto es mediador de un mejor pacto, establecido sobre mejores promesas. 7 Porque si aquel primero hubiera sido sin defecto, ciertamente no se hubiera procurado lugar para el segundo.
8 Porque reprendiéndolos dice:
He aquí vienen días, dice el Señor,
En que estableceré con la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá un nuevo pacto;
9 No como el pacto que hice con sus padres
El día que los tomé de la mano para sacarlos de la tierra de Egipto;
Porque ellos no permanecieron en mi pacto,
Y yo me desentendí de ellos, dice el Señor.
10 Por lo cual, este es el pacto que haré con la casa de Israel
Después de aquellos días, dice el Señor:
Pondré mis leyes en la mente de ellos,
Y sobre su corazón las escribiré;
Y seré a ellos por Dios,
Y ellos me serán a mí por pueblo;
11 Y ninguno enseñará a su prójimo,
Ni ninguno a su hermano, diciendo: Conoce al Señor;
Porque todos me conocerán,
Desde el menor hasta el mayor de ellos.
12 Porque seré propicio a sus injusticias,
Y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados y de sus iniquidades.(C)
13 Al decir: Nuevo pacto, ha dado por viejo al primero; y lo que se da por viejo y se envejece, está próximo a desaparecer.

8 Ahora bien, el punto principal de lo que venimos diciendo es que el sumo sacerdote que tenemos es tal que se sentó a la derecha del trono de la Majestad en los cielos.(A) 2 Él es ministro del santuario, de ese tabernáculo verdadero, levantado por el Señor y no por los hombres. 3 Todo sumo sacerdote es designado para presentar ofrendas y sacrificios, y por eso es necesario que también tenga algo que ofrecer. 4 Si estuviera sobre la tierra, ni siquiera sería sacerdote, porque aquí ya hay sacerdotes que presentan las ofrendas de acuerdo con la ley. 5 Estos sacerdotes sirven a lo que no es más que modelo y sombra de las cosas celestiales, tal y como se le advirtió a Moisés cuando iba a levantar el tabernáculo: «Ten cuidado de hacer todas las cosas según el modelo que se te ha mostrado en el monte.»(B) 6 Pero nuestro Sumo Sacerdote ha recibido un ministerio mucho mejor, pues es mediador de un pacto mejor, establecido sobre mejores promesas. 7 Si el primer pacto hubiera sido perfecto, no habría sido necesario un segundo pacto.
8 Pero Dios, al reprocharles sus defectos, dice:
«Vienen días (dice el Señor)
en que estableceré un nuevo pacto
con la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá.
9 Ese pacto no será semejante
al que hice con sus antepasados
el día en que los tomé de la mano
para sacarlos de la tierra de Egipto,
pues ellos no fueron fieles a mi pacto,
y por eso los abandoné (dice el Señor).
10 Éste es el pacto que haré
con la casa de Israel:
Después de aquellos días (dice el Señor)
pondré mis leyes en su mente,
y las escribiré sobre su corazón.
Yo seré su Dios,
y ellos serán mi pueblo.
11 Ya nadie enseñará a su prójimo,
ni le dirá a su hermano “Conoce al Señor”,
porque todos me conocerán,
desde el más pequeño hasta el más grande.
12 Seré misericordioso con sus injusticias,
y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados
ni de sus iniquidades.»(C)
13 Al decir «nuevo pacto», se ha dado por viejo al primero; y lo que es viejo y anticuado está en vías de desaparecer.
