Knijga O Kristu
6 Prestanimo zato stalno iznova ponavljati temeljna znanja o Kristu. Pođimo radije dalje i sazrijevajmo u razumijevanju. Ne moramo opet počinjati ispočetka, o važnosti odvraćanja od mrtvih djela i o vjeri u Boga.
2 Ne trebaju vam više upute o krštenju, polaganju ruku, uskrsnuću od mrtvih i vječnome sudu.
3 Pođimo stoga, uz Božje dopuštenje, dalje.
4 Nije moguće da se ponovno obrate oni koji su već bili prosvijetljeni i okusili nebeski dar te postali dionicima Svetoga Duha,
5 koji su okusili dobru Božju riječ i silu budućega svijeta,
6 a zatim su otpali od Boga. Oni se ne mogu ponovno obratiti jer svojim postupcima sami iznova pribijaju Sina Božjega na križ i izvrgavaju ga ruglu.
7 Jer kad se zemlja natopi kišom što na nju često pada i kad rađa dobrim plodovima korisnima rataru, prima blagoslov od Boga.
8 Ali rastu li na njoj samo trnje i drač, odbačena je, pod prokletstvom, i bit će spaljena.
9 Iako tako govorimo, uvjereni smo, dragi moji, da je s vama dobro i da ste na putu spasenja.
10 Jer Bog nije nepravedan. Neće zaboraviti vaše djelo: da ste mu iskazali ljubav brinući se o drugoj braći, što i sada činite.
11 žarka nam je želja da sve do konca budete tako gorljivi da se ispuni vaša nada.
12 Tako nećete duhovno otupjeti i postati ravnodušnima, nego slijediti primjer onih koji su zbog svoje vjere i strpljivosti postali baštinicima Božjih obećanja.
Božje obećanje daje nadu
13 Kad je Bog Abrahamu dao obećanje, kako se nije imao zakleti kime većim, zakleo se samim sobom:
14 'Izobilno ću te blagosloviti
i dat ću ti brojne potomke.'[a]
15 Abraham je strpljivo čekao i dočekao da Bog ispuni obećanje.
16 Ljudi se uvijek zaklinju nekime tko je veći od njih te tako zakletvom, kao potvrdom istine, završavaju svaku raspravu.
17 Bog je zakletvom zajamčio baštinicima svojih obećanja da neće promijeniti odluku.
18 Bog nam je dao svoje obećanje i svoju zakletvu. To dvoje ne može se promijeniti zato što Bog ne može prevariti. Stoga se mi koji smo se njemu utekli možemo hrabro držati nade koju nam je dao.
19 To je pouzdanje poput čvrstog i pouzdanog sidra našim dušama. Uvodi nas iza zastora, u nebo, u Božje svetište.
20 Isus je onamo već ušao za nas. Postao je vječnim Velikim svećenikom, sličan Melkisedeku.

6 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

The Peril of Not Progressing
6 Therefore, (A)leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to [a]perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from (B)dead works and of faith toward God, 2 (C)of the doctrine of baptisms, (D)of laying on of hands, (E)of resurrection of the dead, (F)and of eternal judgment. 3 And this [b]we will do if God permits.
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted (G)the heavenly gift, and (H)have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 [c]if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, (I)since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, (J)receives blessing from God; 8 (K)but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.
A Better Estimate
9 But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. 10 For (L)God is not unjust to forget (M)your work and [d]labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have (N)ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence (O)to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become [e]sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience (P)inherit the promises.
God’s Infallible Purpose in Christ
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, (Q)He swore by Himself, 14 saying, (R)“Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the (S)promise. 16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and (T)an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. 17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to (U)the heirs of promise (V)the [f]immutability of His counsel, [g]confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two [h]immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to (W)lie, we [i]might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope (X)set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, (Y)and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 (Z)where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, (AA)having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
