And (A)no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, (B)just as Aaron was.

So also Christ (C)did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,

(D)“You are my Son,
    today I have begotten you”;

as he says also in another place,

(E)“You are a priest forever,
    after the order of Melchizedek.”

In the days of his flesh, (F)Jesus[a] offered up prayers and supplications, (G)with loud cries and tears, to him (H)who was able to save him from death, and (I)he was heard because of his reverence. Although (J)he was a son, (K)he learned obedience through what he suffered. And (L)being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest (M)after the order of Melchizedek.

  1. Hebrews 5:7 Greek he

No one takes this honor on himself; instead, a person is called by God, just as Aaron was.(A) In the same way, the Messiah did not exalt Himself to become a high priest, but the One who said to Him, You are My Son; today I have become Your Father,(B)[a] also said in another passage, You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.(C)[b]

During His earthly life,[c] He offered prayers and appeals(D) with loud cries and tears(E) to the One who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Though He was God’s Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered.(F) After He was perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him, 10 and He was declared by God a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
