새로운 안식처

그러므로 하나님의 안식처에 들어갈 약속은 아직도 효력이 있습니다. 여러 분 가운데 아무도 그 곳에 들어갈 기회를 놓치지 않도록 조심하십시오.

우리도 그들과 마찬가지로 기쁜 소식을 전해 들었습니다. 그러나 그들이 들은 말씀이 자기들에게 유익이 되지 못했던 것은 그 말씀을 믿음으로 받아들이지 않았기 때문입니다.

이제 믿는 우리는 그 안식처에 들어갑니다. 이것은 하나님이 말씀하신 것과 같습니다. [a]“그래서 내가 분노하여 ‘그들은 안식처가 될 약속의 땅에 들어오지 못할 것이다’ 라고 선언하였다.” 그러나 이 일은 세상이 창조될 때부터 이미 이루어졌습니다.

일곱째 날에 대하여는 성경에 [b]“하나님은 모든 일을 마치시고 일곱째 날에 쉬셨다” 라고 쓰여 있습니다.

그리고 다시 “그들은 안식처가 될 약속의 땅에 들어오지 못할 것이다” 라고 하였습니다.

그렇다면 그 안식처에 들어갈 사람들이 아직 남아 있습니다. 먼저 기쁜 소식을 들은 이스라엘 사람들은 불순종했기 때문에 그 곳에 들어가지 못했습니다.

그러므로 하나님은 오랜 후에 ‘오늘’ 이라는 어느 한 날을 정하시고 다윗을 통해 전에 말씀하신 대로 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. [c]“오늘 너희가 그의 음성을 듣거든 못된 고집을 부리지 말아라.”

만일 여호수아가 그들에게 진정한 안식을 주었더라면 하나님은 후에 다른 날을 말씀하시지 않았을 것입니다.

그러므로 안식할 때가 하나님의 백성에게 아직 남아 있습니다.

10 하나님의 안식에 들어간 사람은 하나님이 일을 마치고 쉬신 것처럼 자기 일을 쉽니다.

11 그러므로 우리는 불순종하다가 멸망한 사람들처럼 되지 말고 저 안식처에 들어가도록 힘씁시다.

12 하나님의 말씀은 살아 있고 활동력이 있어서 양쪽에 날이 선 그 어떤 칼보다도 더 날카롭습니다. 그래서 혼과 영과 관절과 골수를 쪼개고 사람의 마음속에 품은 생각과 뜻을 알아냅니다.

13 하나님 앞에서는 아무것도 숨길 수가 없습니다. 우리가 모든 것을 고백해야 할 그분의 눈 앞에는 모든 것이 벌거숭이로 드러나기 마련입니다.

예수님은 우리의 대제사장

14 우리에게는 하늘로 올라가신 위대한 대제사장이 계십니다. 그분이 바로 하나님의 아들 예수님이십니다. 그러므로 우리가 고백하는 신앙을 굳게 지킵시다.

15 우리 대제사장은 우리의 연약함을 동정할 수 없는 분이 아니십니다. 오히려 그분은 모든 점에서 우리처럼 시험을 받으셨습니다. 그러나 죄는 없으셨습니다.

16 그러므로 우리는 불쌍히 여기심을 받고 때를 따라 도우시는 은혜를 받기 위하여 담대하게 하나님의 보좌로 가까이 나아갑시다.

Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem (A)to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because (B)they were not united by faith with those who listened.[a] For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said,

(C)“As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest,’”

although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: (D)“And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” And again in this passage he said,

(E)“They shall not enter my rest.”

Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news (F)failed to enter because of disobedience, again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,

(G)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”

For if Joshua had given them rest, God[b] would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also (H)rested from his works as God did from his.

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so (I)that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For (J)the word of God is living and (K)active, (L)sharper than any (M)two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and (N)discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And (O)no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are (P)naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Since then we have (Q)a great high priest (R)who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, (S)let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest (T)who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been (U)tempted as we are, (V)yet without sin. 16 (W)Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

God’s Promised Rest

Therefore we must be wary[a] that, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, none of you may seem to have come short of it. For we had good news proclaimed to us just as they did. But the message they heard did them no good, since they did not join in[b] with those who heard it in faith.[c] For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest!’”[d] And yet God’s works[e] were accomplished from the foundation of the world. For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,”[f] but to repeat the text cited earlier:[g]They will never enter my rest! Therefore it remains for some to enter it, yet those to whom it was previously proclaimed did not enter because of disobedience. So God[h] again ordains a certain day, “Today,” speaking through David[i] after so long a time, as in the words quoted before,[j]Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks![k] Do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God[l] would not have spoken afterward about another day. Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God. 10 For the one who enters God’s[m] rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his own works. 11 Thus we must make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by following the same pattern of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from God,[n] but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.

Jesus Our Compassionate High Priest

14 Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.[o]
