The Father’s Discipline

(A)You have not yet resisted [a](B)to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,

(C)My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the [b]Lord,
Nor (D)faint when you are reproved by Him;
(E)For those (F)whom the [c]Lord loves He disciplines,
And He flogs every son whom He receives.”

In your struggle against sin, you haven’t resisted yet to the point of shedding blood, and you have forgotten the encouragement that addresses you as sons and daughters:

My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline
    or give up when you are corrected by him,
because the Lord disciplines whomever he loves,
        and he punishes every son or daughter whom he accepts.[a]
