⁷ By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen,^(A) in holy fear built an ark^(B) to save his family.^(C) By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.^(D)

²⁰ to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently^(A) in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.^(B) In it only a few people, eight in all,^(C) were saved^(D) through water,

¹³ So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy^(A) both them and the earth.^{(B) 14} So make yourself an ark of cypress^[a] wood;^(C) make rooms in it and coat it with pitch^(D) inside and out. ¹⁵ This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.^{[b] 16} Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit^[c] high all around.^[d] Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. ¹⁷ I am going to bring floodwaters^(E) on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.^{(F) 18} But I will establish my covenant with you,^(G) and you will enter the ark^(H)—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. ¹⁹ You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.^{(I) 20} Two^(J) of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind^(K) of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.^{(L) 21} You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.”

²² Noah did everything just as God commanded him.^(M)

7 The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family,^(N) because I have found you righteous^(O) in this generation.

¹³ It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise^(A) that he would be heir of the world,^(B) but through the righteousness that comes by faith.^(C)

¹⁴ even if these three men—Noah,^(A) Daniel^[a](B) and Job^(C)—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness,^(D) declares the Sovereign Lord.

²⁶ “Just as it was in the days of Noah,^(A) so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.

²⁰ as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.^(A)

⁵ For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.^(A)

²² This righteousness^(A) is given through faith^(B) in^[a] Jesus Christ^(C) to all who believe.^(D) There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,^(E)
