The Epistle to the Hebrews
The drift and end of this Epistle, is to show that Jesus Christ the Son of God both God and man, is that true eternal and only Prophet, King, and high Priest, that was shadowed by the figures of the old Law, and is now indeed exhibited: of whom the whole Church ought to be taught, governed and sanctified.
1 2 To show that the doctrine which Christ brought, is most excellent, in that it is the knitting up of all prophecies, 4 he advanceth him above the Angels: 10 And proveth by divers testimonies of the Scripture, that he far passeth all others.
1 At [a]sundry times and in divers manners God spake in the old time to our fathers by the Prophets: in these [b]last days he hath spoken unto us by his [c]Son,
2 [d]Whom he hath made [e]heir of all things, by whom also he made the [f]worlds,
3 (A)Who being the [g]brightness of the glory, and the engraved form of his [h]person, and [i]bearing up all things by his mighty word: [j]hath by himself purged our sins: and [k]sitteth at the right hand of the Majesty in the highest places,
4 [l]And is made so much more excellent than the Angels, inasmuch as he hath obtained a more excellent [m]Name than they.
5 [n]For unto which of the Angels said he at any time, (B)Thou art my Son, [o]this day begat I thee? and again, I (C)will be his Father, and he shall be my Son:
6 And [p]again, when he bringeth in his first begotten Son into the world, he saith, (D)And let all the Angels of God worship him.
7 And of the Angels he saith, (E)He maketh the spirits his [q]messengers, and his ministers a flame [r]of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, (F)O God, thy [s]throne is forever [t]and ever: the scepter of thy kingdom is a [u]scepter of righteousness.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness and [v]hated iniquity. Wherefore God, even thy God, hath [w]anointed thee with the oil of gladness, above thy [x]fellows.
10 And, (G)Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast [y]established the earth, and the heavens are the works of thine hands.
11 They shall perish, but thou dost remain, and they all shall wax old as doth a garment,
12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
13 Unto which also of the Angels said he at any time, (H)Sit at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all [z]ministering spirits, sent forth to minister, for their sakes which shall be heirs of salvation?

- Hebrews 1:1 The first part of the general proposition of this Epistle: the Son of God is indeed that Prophet or teacher, which hath actually now performed that that God after a sort and in shadows signified by his Prophets, and hath fully opened his Father’s will to the world.

- Hebrews 1:3 The third part of the same proposition. The same Son executed the office of the high Priest in offering up himself, and is our only and most mighty Mediator in heaven.
- Hebrews 1:3 This showeth that the savor of that his sacrifice is not only most acceptable to the Father, but also is everlasting, and furthermore how far this high Priest passeth all the other high Priests.
- Hebrews 1:4 Before he cometh to declare the office of Christ, he setteth forth the excellency of his person, and first of all he showeth him so to be man, that therewithal he is God also.

God’s Final Word in His Son
1 God, after He (A)spoke long ago to the fathers in (B)the prophets in many portions and (C)in many ways, 2 [a](D)in these last days (E)has spoken to us [b]in (F)His Son, whom He appointed (G)heir of all things, (H)through whom also He made the [c](I)world. 3 [d]And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact (J)representation of His nature, and [e](K)upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made (L)purification of sins, He (M)sat down at the right hand of the (N)Majesty on high, 4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent (O)name than they.
5 For to which of the angels did He ever say,
“(P)You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You”?
And again,
“(Q)I will be a Father to Him
And He shall be a Son to Me”?
6 And [f]when He again (R)brings the firstborn into [g](S)the world, He says,
“(T)And let all the angels of God worship Him.”
7 And of the angels He says,
“(U)Who makes His angels winds,
And His ministers a flame of fire.”
8 But of the Son He says,
“(V)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
And the righteous scepter is the scepter of [h]His kingdom.
9 “(W)You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
(X)Therefore God, Your God, has (Y)anointed You
With the oil of gladness above Your companions.”
10 And,
“(Z)You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands;
11 (AA)They will perish, but You remain;
(AB)And they all will become old like a garment,
12 (AC)And like a mantle You will roll them up;
Like a garment they will also be changed.
But You are (AD)the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.”
13 But to which of the angels has He ever said,
14 Are they not all (AG)ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will (AH)inherit (AI)salvation?

El Hijo, superior a los ángeles
1 Dios, que muchas veces y de varias maneras habló a nuestros antepasados en otras épocas por medio de los profetas, 2 en estos días finales nos ha hablado por medio de su Hijo. A este lo designó heredero de todo, y por medio de él hizo el universo. 3 El Hijo es el resplandor de la gloria de Dios, la fiel imagen de lo que él es, y el que sostiene todas las cosas con su palabra poderosa. Después de llevar a cabo la purificación de los pecados, se sentó a la derecha de la Majestad en las alturas. 4 Así llegó a ser superior a los ángeles en la misma medida en que el nombre que ha heredado supera en excelencia al de ellos.
5 Porque, ¿a cuál de los ángeles dijo Dios jamás:
«Tú eres mi hijo;
hoy mismo te he engendrado»;[a]
y en otro pasaje:
«Yo seré su padre,
y él será mi hijo»?[b]
6 Además, al introducir a su Primogénito en el mundo, Dios dice:
«Que lo adoren todos los ángeles de Dios».[c]

«Él hace de los vientos sus ángeles,
y de las llamas de fuego sus servidores».[d]
8 Pero con respecto al Hijo dice:
«Tu trono, oh Dios, permanece por los siglos de los siglos,
y el cetro de tu reino es un cetro de justicia.
9 Has amado la justicia y odiado la maldad;
por eso Dios, tu Dios, te ha ungido con aceite de alegría,
exaltándote por encima de tus compañeros».[e]
10 También dice:
«En el principio, oh Señor, tú afirmaste la tierra,
y los cielos son la obra de tus manos.
11 Ellos perecerán, pero tú permaneces para siempre.
Todos ellos se desgastarán como un vestido.
12 Los doblarás como un manto,
y cambiarán como ropa que se muda;
pero tú eres siempre el mismo,
y tus años no tienen fin».[f]
13 ¿A cuál de los ángeles dijo Dios jamás:
«Siéntate a mi derecha,
hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
por estrado de tus pies»?[g]
14 ¿No son todos los ángeles espíritus dedicados al servicio divino, enviados para ayudar a los que han de heredar la salvación?

God’s Final Word: His Son
1 In the past God spoke(A) to our ancestors through the prophets(B) at many times and in various ways,(C) 2 but in these last days(D) he has spoken to us by his Son,(E) whom he appointed heir(F) of all things, and through whom(G) also he made the universe.(H) 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory(I) and the exact representation of his being,(J) sustaining all things(K) by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins,(L) he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.(M) 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.(N)
The Son Superior to Angels
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
Or again,
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn(Q) into the world,(R) he says,
7 In speaking of the angels he says,
8 But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;(U)
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions(V)
by anointing you with the oil(W) of joy.”[e](X)
10 He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.(Y)
11 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.(Z)
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,(AA)

13 To which of the angels did God ever say,
14 Are not all angels ministering spirits(AF) sent to serve those who will inherit(AG) salvation?(AH)
