Hebrews 7:4-10
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
4 See how great he is! Even[a] Abraham the patriarch gave him a tenth of the spoils.(A) 5 And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to collect tithes[b] from the people, that is, from their kindred, though these also are descended from Abraham.(B) 6 But this man, who does not belong to their ancestry, collected tithes[c] from Abraham and blessed him who had received the promises.(C) 7 It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. 8 In the one case, tithes are received by those who are mortal; in the other, by one of whom it is testified that he lives.(D) 9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.

Hebrews 7:4-10
New American Standard Bible
4 Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the (A)patriarch, (B)gave a tenth of the choicest spoils. 5 And those indeed of (C)the sons of Levi who receive the priest’s office have a commandment [a]in the Law to collect [b]a tenth from the people, that is, from their countrymen, although they [c]are descended from Abraham. 6 But the one (D)whose genealogy is not traced from them (E)collected [d]a tenth from Abraham and [e](F)blessed the one who (G)had the promises. 7 But without any dispute the lesser person is blessed by the greater. 8 In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them, (H)of whom it is witnessed that he lives on. 9 And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, has paid tithes, 10 for he was still in the loins of his [f]forefather when Melchizedek met him.

New International Version
4 Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch(A) Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder!(B) 5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people(C)—that is, from their fellow Israelites—even though they also are descended from Abraham. 6 This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed(D) him who had the promises.(E) 7 And without doubt the lesser is blessed by the greater. 8 In the one case, the tenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living.(F) 9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, 10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
