19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,(A) 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.(B) He has become a high priest(C) forever, in the order of Melchizedek.(D)

Melchizedek the Priest

This Melchizedek was king of Salem(E) and priest of God Most High.(F) He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,(G) and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy,(H) without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God,(I) he remains a priest forever.

19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
