14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise (A)partook of the same things, that (B)through death he might (C)destroy (D)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who (E)through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he (F)helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had (G)to be made like his brothers in every respect, (H)so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest (I)in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered (J)when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Jesus Greater Than Moses

Therefore, holy brothers,[a] you who share in (K)a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, (L)the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, (M)just as Moses also was faithful in all God's[b] house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but (N)the builder of all things is God.) (O)Now Moses was faithful in all God's house (P)as a servant, (Q)to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God's house as (R)a son. And (S)we are his house, if indeed we (T)hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.[c]

14 Since the children have flesh and blood,(A) he too shared in their humanity(B) so that by his death he might break the power(C) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil(D) 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear(E) of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.(F) 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[a](G) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful(H) and faithful high priest(I) in service to God,(J) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.(K) 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.(L)

Jesus Greater Than Moses

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters,(M) who share in the heavenly calling,(N) fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge(O) as our apostle and high priest.(P) He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.(Q) Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses,(R) just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.(S) “Moses was faithful as a servant(T) in all God’s house,”[b](U) bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son(V) over God’s house. And we are his house,(W) if indeed we hold firmly(X) to our confidence and the hope(Y) in which we glory.
