Hebrews 2:14-18
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
14 Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, he himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,(A) 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death.(B) 16 For it is clear that he did not come to help angels but the descendants of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make a sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people.(C) 18 Because he himself was tested by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.(D)

14 Therefore, since the children share in [a](A)flesh and blood, (B)He Himself likewise also partook of the same, so that (C)through death He might destroy (D)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and free those who through (E)fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For clearly He does not [b]give help to angels, but He gives help to the [c]descendants of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He [d]had (F)to be made like His brothers so that He might (G)become a merciful and faithful (H)high priest in (I)things pertaining to God, to (J)make [e]propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was [f](K)tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are [g]tempted.

New International Version
14 Since the children have flesh and blood,(A) he too shared in their humanity(B) so that by his death he might break the power(C) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil(D)— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear(E) of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.(F) 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[a](G) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful(H) and faithful high priest(I) in service to God,(J) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.(K) 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.(L)
