Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to (A)the Father of spirits (B)and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, (C)that we may share his holiness. 11 (D)For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields (E)the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

12 Therefore (F)lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, 13 and (G)make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint (H)but rather be healed.

Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(A) and live!(B) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(C) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(D) for those who have been trained by it.

12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.(E) 13 “Make level paths for your feet,”[a](F) so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.(G)
