39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise,

40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

12 Therefore, seeing we also are compassed about by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider Him that endured such contradiction from sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

39 These were all commended(A) for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,(B) 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us(C) would they be made perfect.(D)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run(E) with perseverance(F) the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus,(G) the pioneer(H) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,(I) scorning its shame,(J) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(K) Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary(L) and lose heart.
