35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has (A)a great reward. 36 For (B)you have need of endurance, so that (C)when you have done the will of God you may (D)receive what is promised. 37 For,

(E)“Yet a little while,
    and (F)the coming one will come and will not delay;
38 (G)but my righteous one shall live by faith,
    and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.”

39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

35 So don’t throw away your confidence—it brings a great reward. 36 You need to endure so that you can receive the promises after you do God’s will.

37 In a little while longer,
    the one who is coming will come and won’t delay;
38 but my righteous one will live by faith,
    and my whole being won’t be pleased with anyone who shrinks back.[a]

39 But we aren’t the sort of people who timidly draw back and end up being destroyed. We’re the sort of people who have faith so that our whole beings are preserved.
