5 For to which of the angels did He ever say,
“(A)You are My Son,
Today I have fathered You”?
And again,
“(B)I will be a Father to Him
And He will be a Son to Me”?
6 And [a]when He again (C)brings the firstborn into [b](D)the world, He says,
“(E)And let all the angels of God worship Him.”
7 And regarding the angels He says,
“(F)He makes His angels winds,
And His ministers a flame of fire.”
8 But regarding the Son He says,
“(G)Your throne, God, is forever and ever,
And the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of [c]His kingdom.
9 (H)You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
(I)Therefore God, Your God, has (J)anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your companions.”
10 And,
“(K)You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands;
11 (L)They will perish, but You remain;
(M)And they all will [d]wear out like a garment,
12 (N)And like a robe You will roll them up;
Like a garment they will also be changed.
But You are (O)the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.”
13 But to which of the angels has He ever said,
14 Are they not all (R)ministering spirits, sent out to provide service for the sake of those who will (S)inherit (T)salvation?
Pay Attention
2 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to [e]what we have heard, so that (U)we do not drift away from it. 2 For if the word (V)spoken through (W)angels proved [f]unalterable, and (X)every violation and act of disobedience received a just [g](Y)punishment, 3 (Z)how will we escape if we neglect so great a (AA)salvation? [h]After it was at first (AB)spoken through the Lord, it was (AC)confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by (AD)signs and wonders, and by (AE)various [i]miracles and by [j](AF)gifts of the Holy Spirit (AG)according to His own will.
Earth Subject to Man
5 For He did not subject to angels [k](AH)the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6 But someone has testified (AI)somewhere, saying,
“(AJ)What is man, that You think of him?
Or a son of man, that You are concerned about him?
7 (AK)You have made him [l]for a little while lower than angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor[m];
8 (AL)You have put everything in subjection under his feet.”
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now (AM)we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
Jesus Briefly Humbled
9 But we do see Him who was (AN)made [n]for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, (AO)because of His suffering death (AP)crowned with glory and honor, so that (AQ)by the grace of God He might (AR)taste death (AS)for everyone.

The Son Superior to Angels
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
Or again,
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn(C) into the world,(D) he says,
7 In speaking of the angels he says,
8 But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;(G)
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions(H)
by anointing you with the oil(I) of joy.”[e](J)
10 He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.(K)
11 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.(L)
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,(M)
and your years will never end.”[f](N)
13 To which of the angels did God ever say,
14 Are not all angels ministering spirits(R) sent to serve those who will inherit(S) salvation?(T)
Warning to Pay Attention
2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.(U) 2 For since the message spoken(V) through angels(W) was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,(X) 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?(Y) This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord,(Z) was confirmed to us by those who heard him.(AA) 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles,(AB) and by gifts of the Holy Spirit(AC) distributed according to his will.(AD)
Jesus Made Fully Human
5 It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6 But there is a place where someone(AE) has testified:
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
a son of man that you care for him?(AF)
7 You made them a little[h] lower than the angels;
you crowned them with glory and honor
8 and put everything under their feet.”[i][j](AG)
In putting everything under them,[k] God left nothing that is not subject to them.[l] Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.[m] 9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor(AH) because he suffered death,(AI) so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.(AJ)
