12 ¶ Por tanto nosotros también, teniendo puesta sobre nosotros una tan grande nube de testigos, dejando todo el peso del pecado que nos rodea, corramos por paciencia la carrera que nos es propuesta,
2 puestos los ojos en el Autor y Consumador de la fe, Jesús, el cual, habiéndole sido propuesto gozo, sufrió el madero, menospreciando la vergüenza, y fue sentado a la diestra del trono de Dios.
3 Traed pues muchas veces a vuestro pensamiento a aquel que sufrió tal contradicción de pecadores contra sí mismo, para que no os fatiguéis en vuestros ánimos desmayando.
4 ¶ Que aún no habéis resistido hasta la sangre combatiendo contra el pecado;
5 y estáis ya olvidados de la consolación que como con hijos habla con vosotros, (diciendo): Hijo mío, no menosprecies el castigo del Señor, ni desmayes cuando eres de él redargüido;
6 porque el Señor al que ama castiga, y azota a cualquiera que recibe por hijo.
7 Si sufrís el castigo, Dios se os presenta como a hijos, porque ¿qué hijo es aquel a quien el padre no castiga?
8 Mas si estáis fuera del castigo, del cual todos los hijos han sido hechos participantes, luego adulterinos sois y no hijos.
9 Además, tuvimos por castigadores a los padres de nuestra carne, y los reverenciábamos: ¿por qué no seamos sujetos mucho mejor al Padre de los espíritus, y viviremos?
10 Y aquellos, a la verdad, por pocos días nos castigaban como a ellos les parecía; mas éste para lo que nos es provechoso, es a saber, para que recibamos su santificación.
11 Es verdad que ningún castigo al presente parece ser causa de gozo, sino de tristeza; mas después da fruto apacible de justicia a los que en él son ejercitados.
12 Por lo cual alzad las manos caídas y las rodillas descoyuntadas.
13 Y haced derechos pasos a vuestros pies, para que lo que es cojo no salga fuera de camino; antes sea sanado.
14 Seguid la paz con todos; y la santidad, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor:
15 Mirando bien que ninguno se aparte de la gracia de Dios; que ninguna raíz de amargura brotando os impida, y por ella muchos sean contaminados.
16 Que ninguno sea fornicario o profano, como Esaú, que por una vianda vendió su primogenitura.
17 Porque ya sabéis que aun después, deseando heredar la bendición, fue reprobado, que no halló lugar de arrepentimiento, aunque la procuró con lágrimas.
18 ¶ Porque no os habéis llegado al monte que se podía tocar, y al fuego encendido, y al turbión, y a la oscuridad, y a la tempestad,
19 y al sonido de la trompeta, y a la voz de las palabras, la cual los que la oyeron rogaron que no se les hablara más;
20 (porque no podían tolerar lo que se decía: y, si una bestia tocare al monte, será apedreada, o pasada con dardo;
21 y tan terrible cosa era lo que se veía, que Moisés dijo: Estoy asombrado y temblando).
22 Mas os habéis llegado al monte de Sión, y a la ciudad del Dios viviente, Jerusalén la celestial, y a la compañía de muchos millares de ángeles,
23 y a la Congregación de la Iglesia de los Primogénitos que están tomados por lista en los cielos, y a Dios el Juez de todos, y a los espíritus de los justos ya perfectos,
24 y a Jesús el Mediador del Nuevo Testamento; y a la sangre del esparcimiento que habla mejor que la de Abel.
25 Mirad que no desechéis al que habla. Porque si no escaparon aquellos que desecharon al que hablaba en la tierra, mucho menos escaparemos nosotros, si desechamos al que habla desde los cielos.
26 La voz del cual entonces conmovió la tierra; mas ahora ha denunciado, diciendo: Aún una vez, y yo conmoveré no solamente la tierra, sino también el cielo.
27 Y lo que dice: Aún una vez, declara el quitar de las cosas movibles, como de cosas hechizas, para que queden las que son firmes.
28 Así que, tomando el Reino inmóvil, retengamos la gracia por la cual sirvamos a Dios, agradándole con temor y reverencia.
29 Porque nuestro Dios es fuego consumidor.

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run(A) with perseverance(B) the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus,(C) the pioneer(D) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,(E) scorning its shame,(F) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(G) 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary(H) and lose heart.
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.(I) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart(J) when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(K)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](L)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(M) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(N)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(O) and live!(P) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(Q) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(R) for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.(S) 13 “Make level paths for your feet,”[b](T) so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.(U)
Warning and Encouragement
14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(V) and to be holy;(W) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(X) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(Y) and that no bitter root(Z) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(AA) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(AB) 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears,(AC) he could not change what he had done.
The Mountain of Fear and the Mountain of Joy
18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;(AD) 19 to a trumpet blast(AE) or to such a voice speaking words(AF) that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,(AG) 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”[c](AH) 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”[d](AI)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion,(AJ) to the city(AK) of the living God,(AL) the heavenly Jerusalem.(AM) You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn,(AN) whose names are written in heaven.(AO) You have come to God, the Judge of all,(AP) to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,(AQ) 24 to Jesus the mediator(AR) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood(AS) that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.(AT)
25 See to it that you do not refuse(AU) him who speaks.(AV) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned(AW) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?(AX) 26 At that time his voice shook the earth,(AY) but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”[e](AZ) 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken(BA)—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,(BB) let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,(BC) 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”[f](BD)

Var uthålliga
12 När vi nu har en sådan sky av vittnen runt omkring, låt oss kasta av allt som hindrar, all synd som vill gripa tag i oss, och med uthållighet springa mot målet. 2 Låt oss fästa blicken på Jesus, som är upphovet till vår tro och som också fullkomnar den. Han såg fram emot den glädje som väntade honom, uthärdade korset utan att bry sig om dess skam och sitter nu på den högra sidan om Guds tron.[a] 3 Tänk på honom som själv fick stå ut med så mycket fiendskap från syndiga människor. Då ska ni inte tröttna och ge upp.
Gud fostrar sina barn
4 Ännu har ni ju inte låtit ert blod flöda i kampen mot synden. 5 Ni har glömt den uppmaning som getts er som söner:
”Min son, förakta inte Herrens fostran.
Tappa inte modet, när han tillrättavisar dig.
6 Herren fostrar var och en som han älskar,
han tuktar varje son som han har kär.”[b]
7 Håll ut i lidandet som ni får gå igenom. Det är för er fostran. Gud behandlar er som sina söner. Var finns den son som inte tuktas av sin far? 8 Om ni inte blir uppfostrade, som alla andra, då är ni inga äkta barn, inga riktiga söner.
9 Våra biologiska fäder uppfostrade oss, och vi respekterade dem. Har vi då inte ännu större anledning att underordna oss andarnas Fader, så att vi får leva? 10 Våra fäder fostrade oss under några korta år, och de gjorde så gott de kunde. Men han fostrar oss för vårt bästa, för att vi ska få del av hans helighet. 11 All fostran känns mer smärtsam än glädjande för stunden. Men för den som övas genom den resulterar den till slut i frid och rättfärdighet. 12 Styrk därför era kraftlösa händer och svaga knän. 13 Gör er vandringsstig rak för era fötter, så att ingen behöver få sin vacklande fot ur led, utan blir helad igen.[c]
Varning för att avvisa Gud
14 Sträva efter att leva i frid med alla människor och efter helgelse, för utan den får ingen se Herren. 15 Se till att ingen går miste om Guds nåd och att ingen rot av bitterhet får börja växa och vålla skada och förstöra livet för många. 16 Se till att ingen av er lever i sexuell omoral eller gudlöshet, som Esau, som sålde sin arvsrätt för ett enda mål mat. 17 Som ni vet ville han sedan ändå få ut sitt arv, välsignelsen, men blev avvisad, för då var det för sent att ångra sig, trots att han bönade och bad under tårar.[d]
18 Ni har inte kommit till ett berg som man kan röra vid, ett berg täckt av eld, svarta moln, mörker och våldsamt oväder, 19 till trumpetstötar och en röst som talade så att de som hörde bad om att inte behöva höra mer. 20 För de stod inte ut med att höra befallningen: ”Till och med det djur som rör vid berget ska stenas.”[e] 21 Synen var så fruktansvärd att Mose sa: ”Jag darrar av skräck.”[f]
22 Nej, ni har kommit till Sions berg[g], den levande Gudens stad, till det himmelska Jerusalem. Ni står inför tusentals änglar, 23 en festförsamling av de förstfödda, vilkas namn är skrivna i himlen.[h] Ni har kommit till Gud, allas domare, och till de rättfärdigas andar som fullkomnats. 24 Ni har kommit till Jesus själv, han som blev medlare i ett nytt förbund, och till det renande blod som talar bättre än Abels.[i]
25 Se därför till att ni inte avvisar honom som talar. Om de inte kunde komma undan, som avvisade honom när han varnade dem här på jorden, hur skulle då vi kunna det om vi avvisar honom som varnar oss från himlen? 26 Den gången fick hans röst jorden att skaka, men nu har han lovat: ”En sista gång ska jag skaka inte bara jorden, utan också himlen.”[j] 27 ”En sista gång” betyder att allt skapat som vacklar ska försvinna, men det som inte vacklar ska bestå.
28 Vi får ett rike som aldrig ska skaka. Låt oss därför vara tacksamma och tjäna Gud så som han vill, med vördnad och fruktan, 29 för vår Gud är en förtärande eld.[k]

12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
