Ang Dios na Ama Natin
12 Napapaligiran tayo ng maraming tao na nagpapatotoo tungkol sa pananampalataya nila sa Dios. Kaya talikuran na natin ang kasalanang pumipigil sa atin at alisin ang anumang hadlang sa pagtakbo natin. Buong tiyaga tayong magpatuloy sa takbuhing itinakda ng Dios para sa atin. 2 Ituon natin ang ating paningin kay Jesus na siyang sandigan ng pananampalataya natin mula sa simula hanggang sa katapusan. Tiniis niya ang paghihirap sa krus at hindi niya ito ikinahiya, dahil inisip niya ang kaligayahang naghihintay sa kanya. At ngayon nga ay nakaupo na siya sa kanan ng trono ng Dios.
3 Isipin nʼyo ang mga tiniis ni Jesus na paghihirap sa kamay ng mga makasalanang tao, para hindi kayo panghinaan ng loob. 4 Kung tutuusin, wala pa namang pinatay sa inyo dahil sa pakikipaglaban sa kasalanan. 5 Baka nakalimutan nʼyo na ang pangaral ng Dios sa inyo bilang mga anak niya:
“Anak, huwag mong balewalain ang pagdidisiplina ng Panginoon,
at huwag kang panghinaan ng loob kung sinasaway ka niya.
6 Sapagkat dinidisiplina ng Panginoon ang mga minamahal niya,
at pinapalo niya ang itinuturing niyang mga anak.”[a]
7 Tiisin nʼyo ang lahat ng paghihirap bilang pagdidisiplina ng Dios sa inyo dahil itinuturing niya kayong mga anak. Sino bang anak ang hindi dinidisiplina ng ama? 8 Kung hindi kayo dinidisiplina ng Dios gaya ng pagdidisiplina niya sa lahat ng anak niya, hindi kayo mga tunay na anak kundi mga anak sa labas. 9 Kahit ang mga ama natin dito sa lupa ay dinidisiplina tayo, at sa kabila nito, iginagalang natin sila. Kaya lalong dapat tayong magpasakop sa pagdidisiplina ng ating Ama na nasa langit, para maging mabuti ang pamumuhay natin. 10 Sa maikling panahon, dinidisiplina tayo ng mga ama natin dito sa lupa ayon sa inaakala nilang mabuti. Ngunit ang pagdidisiplina ng Dios ay laging para sa ikabubuti natin upang maging banal tayong gaya niya. 11 Habang dinidisiplina tayo, hindi tayo natutuwa kundi nasasaktan. Ngunit ang ibubunga naman nito sa bandang huli ay ang mapayapa at matuwid na pamumuhay.

12 Kaya palakasin ninyo ang sarili nʼyo at patibayin ang inyong loob. 13 Lumakad kayo sa matuwid na daan upang ang mga kapatid na sumusunod sa inyo, na mahihina ang pananampalataya, ay hindi matisod at mapilayan kundi lumakas. 14 Pagsikapan ninyong mamuhay nang may mabuting relasyon sa lahat ng tao, at magpakabanal kayo. Sapagkat kung hindi banal ang pamumuhay nʼyo, hindi nʼyo makikita ang Panginoon. 15 Ingatan nʼyo na walang sinuman sa inyo ang tatalikod sa biyaya ng Dios. At huwag ninyong hayaang umiral ang samaan ng loob sa inyo at marami ang madamay. 16 Ingatan din ninyo na walang sinuman sa inyo ang gagawa ng sekswal na imoralidad o mamumuhay nang gaya ni Esau, na hindi pinahalagahan ang mga espiritwal na bagay, dahil ipinagpalit niya ang karapatan niya bilang panganay sa isang kainan.[b] 17 At alam nʼyo na rin na pagkatapos ay hiningi ni Esau sa kanyang ama ang pagpapalang nauukol sa panganay, pero tinanggihan siya. Sapagkat hindi na mababago ang ginawa niya anumang pagsisikap at pag-iyak ang gawin niya.
18 Ang paglapit nʼyo sa Dios ay hindi katulad ng paglapit ng mga Israelita noon. Lumapit sila sa isang bundok na nakikita nila – ang Bundok ng Sinai na may nagliliyab na apoy, may kadiliman at malakas na hangin. 19 Nakarinig din sila ng tunog ng trumpeta at boses ng nagsasalita. At nang marinig nila ang boses na iyon, nagmakaawa silang huwag na itong magsalita pa sa kanila 20 dahil hindi nila makayanan ang utos na ito: “Ang sinumang tumapak sa bundok, kahit hayop, ay babatuhin hanggang sa mamatay.”[c] 21 Tunay na kakila-kilabot ang tanawing iyon, kaya maging si Moises ay nagsabi, “Nanginginig ako sa takot!”[d]
22 Ngunit hindi ganito ang paglapit nʼyo sa Panginoon. Dahil ang nilapitan ninyo ay ang Bundok ng Zion, ang lungsod ng Dios na buhay, ang Jerusalem na nasa langit na may libu-libong anghel na nagtitipon nang may kagalakan. 23 Lumapit kayo sa pagtitipon[e] ng mga itinuturing na mga panganay ng Dios, na ang mga pangalan nila ay nakasulat sa langit. Lumapit kayo sa Dios na siyang hukom ng lahat, at sa mga espiritu ng mga taong itinuring na matuwid ng Dios at ginawa na niyang ganap. 24 Lumapit kayo kay Jesus na siyang tagapamagitan natin sa Dios sa bagong kasunduan. Ang kasunduang itoʼy pinagtibay ng kanyang dugo na higit na mabuti kaysa sa dugo ni Abel na humihingi ng katarungan.
25 Kaya mag-ingat kayo at huwag tanggihan ang Dios na nagsasalita sa atin. Ang mga tao noon na hindi nakinig sa mga propeta rito sa lupa ay hindi nakaligtas sa parusa. Paano kaya tayo makakaligtas kung hindi natin pakikinggan ang nagsasalita mula sa langit? 26 Yumanig noon ang lupa nang magsalita ang Dios. At ngayon ay nangako siya, “Minsan ko pang yayanigin ang mundo, pati na rin ang langit.”[f] 27 Ang katagang “minsan pa” ay nagpapahiwatig na aalisin ng Dios ang lahat ng nilikha niya na nayayanig, para manatili ang mga bagay na hindi nayayanig. 28 Kaya magpasalamat tayo sa Dios dahil kabilang na tayo sa kaharian niya na hindi nayayanig. Sambahin natin siya sa paraang kalugod-lugod, na may takot at paggalang sa kanya, 29 dahil kapag nagparusa ang ating Dios, itoʼy parang apoy na nakakatupok.[g]

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run(A) with perseverance(B) the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus,(C) the pioneer(D) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,(E) scorning its shame,(F) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(G) 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary(H) and lose heart.
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.(I) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart(J) when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(K)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](L)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(M) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(N)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(O) and live!(P) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(Q) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(R) for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.(S) 13 “Make level paths for your feet,”[b](T) so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.(U)
Warning and Encouragement
14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(V) and to be holy;(W) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(X) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(Y) and that no bitter root(Z) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(AA) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(AB) 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears,(AC) he could not change what he had done.
The Mountain of Fear and the Mountain of Joy
18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;(AD) 19 to a trumpet blast(AE) or to such a voice speaking words(AF) that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,(AG) 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”[c](AH) 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”[d](AI)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion,(AJ) to the city(AK) of the living God,(AL) the heavenly Jerusalem.(AM) You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn,(AN) whose names are written in heaven.(AO) You have come to God, the Judge of all,(AP) to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,(AQ) 24 to Jesus the mediator(AR) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood(AS) that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.(AT)
25 See to it that you do not refuse(AU) him who speaks.(AV) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned(AW) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?(AX) 26 At that time his voice shook the earth,(AY) but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”[e](AZ) 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken(BA)—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,(BB) let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,(BC) 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”[f](BD)

God Our Father
12 As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. 2 Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God's throne.
3 Think of what he went through; how he put up with so much hatred from sinners! So do not let yourselves become discouraged and give up. 4 For in your struggle against sin you have not yet had to resist to the point of being killed. 5 (A)Have you forgotten the encouraging words which God speaks to you as his children?
“My child, pay attention when the Lord corrects you,
and do not be discouraged when he rebukes you.
6 Because the Lord corrects everyone he loves,
and punishes everyone he accepts as a child.”
7 Endure what you suffer as being a father's punishment; your suffering shows that God is treating you as his children. Was there ever a child who was not punished by his father? 8 If you are not punished, as all his children are, it means you are not real children, but bastards. 9 In the case of our human fathers, they punished us and we respected them. How much more, then, should we submit to our spiritual Father and live! 10 Our human fathers punished us for a short time, as it seemed right to them; but God does it for our own good, so that we may share his holiness. 11 When we are punished, it seems to us at the time something to make us sad, not glad. Later, however, those who have been disciplined by such punishment reap the peaceful reward of a righteous life.
Instructions and Warnings
12 (B)Lift up your tired hands, then, and strengthen your trembling knees! 13 (C)Keep walking on straight paths, so that the lame foot may not be disabled, but instead be healed.
14 Try to be at peace with everyone, and try to live a holy life, because no one will see the Lord without it. 15 (D)Guard against turning back from the grace of God. Let no one become like a bitter plant that grows up and causes many troubles with its poison. 16 (E)Let no one become immoral or unspiritual like Esau, who for a single meal sold his rights as the older son. 17 (F)Afterward, you know, he wanted to receive his father's blessing; but he was turned back, because he could not find any way to change what he had done, even though in tears he looked for it.[a]
18 (G)You have not come, as the people of Israel came, to what you can feel, to Mount Sinai with its blazing fire, the darkness and the gloom, the storm, 19 the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of a voice. When the people heard the voice, they begged not to hear another word, 20 (H)because they could not bear the order which said, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21 (I)The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling and afraid!”
22 Instead, you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, with its thousands of angels. 23 You have come to the joyful gathering of God's first-born, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, who is the judge of all people, and to the spirits of good people made perfect. 24 (J)You have come to Jesus, who arranged the new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that promises much better things than does the blood of Abel.
25 (K)Be careful, then, and do not refuse to hear him who speaks. Those who refused to hear the one who gave the divine message on earth did not escape. How much less shall we escape, then, if we turn away from the one who speaks from heaven! 26 (L)His voice shook the earth at that time, but now he has promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven as well.” 27 The words “once more” plainly show that the created things will be shaken and removed, so that the things that cannot be shaken will remain.
28 Let us be thankful, then, because we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Let us be grateful and worship God in a way that will please him, with reverence and awe; 29 (M)because our God is indeed a destroying fire.

12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
