15 Als ze daarmee het vaderland hadden bedoeld waar ze vandaan waren gekomen, hadden ze terug kunnen gaan. 16 Maar zij verlangden naar een beter vaderland, namelijk hun hemelse vaderland. Daarom schaamt God Zich er niet voor om Zich hun God te noemen. Want Hij heeft voor hen in de hemel een stad gebouwd.
17 Doordat Abraham God geloofde, heeft hij gehoorzaam zijn zoon Izaäk op het altaar gelegd om hem te offeren. God wilde hem zo op de proef stellen.
