12 このように、数えきれないほどの多くの証人たちが、競技場の観覧席で私たちを見つめているのです。だから、うしろへ引き戻そうとする力や、まとわりつく罪をふり捨てて、神の用意された競走を忍耐をもって走り抜こうではありませんか。 2 あなたがたの信仰の指導者であり教師であるイエスから、目を離さないようにしなさい。イエスは後にある喜びを知って、恥辱をものともせず十字架にかかられました。そして今は、神の王座の右に座しておられるのです。 3 罪人たちの恐ろしい反抗を忍ばれたイエスのことを、いつも思っていなさい。あなたがたが気力を失い、弱り果てることがないためです。 4 あなたがたは罪や誘惑と戦っています。けれどもまだ、血を流すほどのきびしい戦いを経験したことはありません。
益になる神の訓練
5 あなたがたは神の勧めを忘れていないでしょうか。神は、このように声をかけてくださっているのです。
「わが子よ。
主の懲らしめを、軽く考えてはならない。
主の叱責に、気落ちしてはならない。
6 主が懲らしめるのは、あなたが憎いからではなく、
あなたを愛しているからである。
主がむち打つのは、
あなたが真に神の子どもだからである。」（箴言3・11-12）
7 進んで神の訓練を受けなさい。神は、父親として当然のことを、子どものあなたがたにしておられるのです。父親から一度も懲らしめを受けたことのない子どもが、どこにいるでしょうか。 8 神は、ほんとうの子どもだからこそ懲らしめるのです。もしそうでなければ、あなたがたは神の家族でないことになります。 9 この世では父親が子どもを罰しても、子どもから尊敬されなくなるようなことはありません。だとしたら、私たちは真に生きることを学ぶために、喜んで神の訓練を受けるべきではないでしょうか。 10 肉親の父親は、ほんの短い間だけ、それも、限られた知識に基づいて私たちを訓練します。ところが神は、私たちの最善を願って、神のきよさを共有させようと訓練をしてくださるのです。 11 罰を受けた当初はだれも気持ちがよいはずはなく、むしろ傷つけられたと感じるものです。しかしあとになれば、それが自分の益となり、すべての面で良かったことがわかります。
12 ですから、しっかり立ち上がりなさい。 13 そして、まっすぐな道を切り開きなさい。そうすれば、たとえ弱くて足が不自由でも、倒れたり、けがをしたりせず、かえって丈夫になるでしょう。
14 争いを避け、きよい生活を追い求めなさい。きよくない人は主を見ることができないからです。 15 あなたがたのうちのだれも、神の祝福を失わないよう互いに注意し合いなさい。あなたがたの間に、憎しみや悪意がはびこらないよう十分に警戒しなさい。それは、多くの人の信仰生活に害を及ぼすからです。 16 また、不品行に走ったり、エサウのように神に無関心にならないよう注意しなさい。エサウは、ただ一度の食事のために、神の祝福のしるしである長子の権利を売りました。 17 あとになって後悔し、涙ながらにその権利を取り戻したいと願いましたが、遅すぎたのです。
神の恐ろしさと偉大さ
18 あなたがたは、イスラエルの民たちがシナイ山で神から律法（十戒）を授けられた時のように、恐怖、燃えさかる火、黒雲、暗闇、たけり狂う嵐に直面しているわけではありません。 19 そこでは、すさまじいラッパの音が響き、また神の声がとどろきました。それを聞いた人たちは、あまりの恐ろしさに、それ以上何もお語りにならないでくださいと、必死に願いました。 20 彼らは、「たとえ動物でも、山に触れるものは殺されなければならない」（出エジプト19・12-13）という神の命令におびえ、あとずさりしました。 21 モーセさえ、この光景を目のあたりにして、恐怖に震えおののいたのです。 22 しかしあなたがたは、シオンの山に近づいているのです。そこは生ける神の都、天にあるエルサレムであり、無数の天使たちが楽しげに集う所です。 23 またあなたがたは、天に登録されている人たちの教会、すべてをさばく神、すでに完全なものとされて天にいる、救われた者たちの霊に近づいているのです。 24 またさらにあなたがたは、新しい契約をもたらしたイエスご自身と、復讐を叫ぶアベルの血ではなく、恵みに満ちた罪の赦しを与える血に近づいているのです。
25 あなたがたに語りかけてくださる方に聞き従いなさい。イスラエルの民が指導者モーセに従うことを拒んだ時、彼らへのさばきは決定的なものとなりました。まして、天からの神の声を拒むなら、どんなに恐ろしい罰が下ることでしょう。 26 シナイ山から語られた神の声は、大地を揺り動かしました。しかし、「わたしはもう一度、地だけではなく、天も揺り動かす」（ハガイ2・6）と、神は宣言しておられます。 27 神は次に、土台の弱いものをすべてふるいにかけ、決して動じないものだけを残そうとしておられるのです。 28 私たちは何ものにも滅ぼされない御国を与えられているのですから、感謝の思いときよい恐れとをいだいて仕え、神に喜んでいただこうではありませんか。 29 神はすべてを焼きつくす火です。

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run(A) with perseverance(B) the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus,(C) the pioneer(D) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,(E) scorning its shame,(F) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(G) 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary(H) and lose heart.
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.(I) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart(J) when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(K)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](L)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(M) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(N)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(O) and live!(P) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(Q) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(R) for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.(S) 13 “Make level paths for your feet,”[b](T) so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.(U)
Warning and Encouragement
14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(V) and to be holy;(W) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(X) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(Y) and that no bitter root(Z) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(AA) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(AB) 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears,(AC) he could not change what he had done.
The Mountain of Fear and the Mountain of Joy
18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;(AD) 19 to a trumpet blast(AE) or to such a voice speaking words(AF) that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,(AG) 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”[c](AH) 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”[d](AI)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion,(AJ) to the city(AK) of the living God,(AL) the heavenly Jerusalem.(AM) You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn,(AN) whose names are written in heaven.(AO) You have come to God, the Judge of all,(AP) to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,(AQ) 24 to Jesus the mediator(AR) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood(AS) that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.(AT)
25 See to it that you do not refuse(AU) him who speaks.(AV) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned(AW) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?(AX) 26 At that time his voice shook the earth,(AY) but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”[e](AZ) 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken(BA)—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,(BB) let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,(BC) 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”[f](BD)

さまざまの指示とあいさつ
13 真実の兄弟愛をもって愛し合いなさい。 2 よそから来た人を、親切にもてなしなさい。そうして、気づかないうちに天使をもてなした人もいます。 3 獄中にある人たちのことを忘れてはいけません。その境遇を思って、苦しみを共に分け合いなさい。また、しいたげられている人たちの悲しみを思いやりなさい。あなたがたは、その苦しみがどんなものか経験ずみなのですから。
4 結婚とその誓約を尊びなさい。純潔を保ちなさい。神は不品行な者、姦淫する者をさばかれるからです。
5 お金を愛する心を捨て、いま与えられているもので満足しなさい。神は、こう約束しておられます。「わたしはどんな場合にもあなたの期待にそむかず、あなたを見捨てない。」（申命31・6） 6 ですから、私たちは確信をもって、こう答えることができます。「主は私を助けてくださいます。だから何もこわくありません。人間が、私にどんな手出しができましょう。」（詩篇118・6）
7 神のことばを教えてくれた指導者たちのことを思い出しなさい。その生活からにじみ出た、すべての良いものに心をとめなさい。そして、彼らに見ならって、主を信じなさい。 8 イエス・キリストは、昨日も今日も、いつまでも変わることがありません。 9 まちがった教えに心を奪われてはなりません。あなたがたの霊的な力は神からのものであって、ある特定の物を食べる規定によって得られるものではありません。そのような規定を厳守しても、何の益にもなりません。
10 私たちには、キリストがいけにえとなられた十字架という祭壇があります。律法に救いを見いだそうとする人は、この祭壇から助けを受けることはできません。 11 律法によると、大祭司は罪のためのいけにえとして、殺された動物の血を携えて聖所に入りますが、動物の体は町の外で焼かれることになっています。 12 イエスも、町の外で苦しみを受けて死なれました。町の外で流されたこの血によって、私たちの罪は洗いきよめられたのです。 13 だから私たちは、町の外に出て〔この世の人たちの関心事から離れ、人々からさげすまれることも覚悟して〕、キリストのはずかしめを身に受け、共に苦しむために、この方のもとに行こうではありませんか。 14 この世は私たちが永遠に住む所ではありません。私たちは、天にある永遠の住まいを待ち望んでいるのです。
15 イエスに助けられながら、神のすばらしい御名を宣べ伝えることによって、いつも、賛美の供え物をささげましょう。 16 良い行いをすることと、困っている人たちに持ち物を分けることを心がけなさい。神はこのような供え物を、とても喜んでくださるのです。 17 教会の指導者たちの言うことを聞き、服従しなさい。彼らの務めは、あなたがたのたましいを見守ることだからです。彼らには、その役目をどれだけ忠実に果たしたか、神に報告する義務があるのです。彼らが、悲しみながらではなく、喜んで報告できるようにしてあげなさい。そうすることは、あなたがたのためでもあるのです。
18 私たちのために祈ってください。私たちの良心は純粋であり、いつもそうありたいと願っています。 19 そして今は、できるだけ早くあなたがたのところへ帰れるように、特に祈ってほしいのです。
20-21 偉大な羊飼いである主イエスを死者の中から復活させてくださった平和の神が、どうか、あなたがたに、神の御心にかなった行いをするのに必要なすべてのものを満たしてくださいますように。神とあなたがたとの間に立てられた永遠の契約の血によって、それが可能となりますように。どうか、キリストに栄光がいつまでもありますように。アーメン。

Concluding Exhortations
13 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.(A) 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers,(B) for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.(C) 3 Continue to remember those in prison(D) as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
4 Marriage should be honored by all,(E) and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.(F) 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money(G) and be content with what you have,(H) because God has said,
6 So we say with confidence,
7 Remember your leaders,(K) who spoke the word of God(L) to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate(M) their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.(N)
9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings.(O) It is good for our hearts to be strengthened(P) by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods,(Q) which is of no benefit to those who do so.(R) 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle(S) have no right to eat.(T)
11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering,(U) but the bodies are burned outside the camp.(V) 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate(W) to make the people holy(X) through his own blood.(Y) 13 Let us, then, go to him(Z) outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.(AA) 14 For here we do not have an enduring city,(AB) but we are looking for the city that is to come.(AC)
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice(AD) of praise—the fruit of lips(AE) that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others,(AF) for with such sacrifices(AG) God is pleased.
17 Have confidence in your leaders(AH) and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you(AI) as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
18 Pray for us.(AJ) We are sure that we have a clear conscience(AK) and desire to live honorably in every way. 19 I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.(AL)
Benediction and Final Greetings
20 Now may the God of peace,(AM) who through the blood of the eternal covenant(AN) brought back from the dead(AO) our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,(AP) 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will,(AQ) and may he work in us(AR) what is pleasing to him,(AS) through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.(AT)
22 Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.(AU)
23 I want you to know that our brother Timothy(AV) has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you.

真理を守る戦い
3 愛する皆さん。私は前々から、神が与えてくださった救いについて、幾つかのことを手紙で書き送りたいと願っていました。ところが今、それとは別のことを書き送らなければなりません。それは、神を信じるすべての者に与えられた真理のことばを守るために、勇敢に戦ってほしいということです。
4 こう言うのも、実は、神を恐れない者たちが、あなたがたの中に忍び込んで来たからです。彼らの主張はこうです。「クリスチャンとなったからには、もう神のさばきなど、くよくよ考える必要はない。何でも自由にやりたいことをやればいい。」彼らはずっと昔から、聖書に書かれているとおりの運命をたどる者たちで、私たちのただひとりの支配者であり主であるイエス・キリストを否定しているのです。
5 私の答えはこうです。とうにわかっているでしょうが、あなたがたに思い出してもらいたいのです。主は、イスラエルの全民衆をエジプトから救い出し、そのあとで、主に信頼せず従いもしなかった者を一人残らず殺してしまわれた、という事実をです。 6 また、もう一つ心にとめてほしいことがあります。それは、かつては汚れなく、きよい存在であったにもかかわらず、罪に堕落していった、あの天使たちのことです。神は、彼らを審判の日まで鎖につなぎ、暗黒の牢獄に閉じ込めてしまわれました。 7 また、ソドムとゴモラ、およびその周辺の町々に起こったことも忘れてはなりません。これらの町は、同性愛やあらゆる種類の好色に満ち、そのために、永遠の刑罰の火で焼き滅ぼされたのです。これらのことは、最後のさばきがあることを、後世の人々に知らせる警告となったのです。

11 災いが彼らに下りますように。カインやバラムやコラと同じ道をたどっているからです。
12 こういう者たちが、教会での愛の会食に加われば大きな汚点を残します。彼らは、他人のことなどおかまいなしに大声で笑ったり、ふざけたりしながら、むさぼり食うのです。まるで、からからに乾ききった大地の上を、一滴の雨も降らせずに通り過ぎる雲のようです。大いに期待させるだけで、何の役にも立ちません。また、彼らは収穫の時期になっても、実一つつけない木に似ています。その状態はただの死ではなく、二重の死を意味します。彼らは根こそぎ引き抜かれて、焼かれるしかないのですから。 13 彼らがあとに残すのは、海岸に打ち寄せる荒波が残していく、汚いあぶくのような恥と不名誉だけです。彼らは一見、夜空に輝く星のように見えますが、その先には、神が用意された永遠の暗闇があるだけです。
14 最初の人アダムと近い年代に生きたエノクも、彼らのことを知っていて、「見よ。主が幾百万の聖徒を連れて来られる。 15 主は全世界の人を自分の前に立たせて、正当な刑罰を宣告される。その時、彼らの神に対する恐るべき反逆行為の数々と、神に刃向かうことばのいっさいが明るみに出される」と預言しています。 16 彼らはいつも不平を言うだけで、ただ欲望のままに歩んでいます。どんな悪事でも平気で行い、大口をたたき、彼らが少しでも人をほめるとすれば、相手から何かをもらおうという魂胆がある時だけです。
信仰を土台とする生活
17 愛する皆さん。主イエスの使徒たちから教えられたことを、思い出してください。 18 終末の時代には、主をあざける者たちが現れるはずではありませんか。彼らの生きがいは、思いつくかぎりの悪を行うことです。 19 彼らはこの世の悪を愛し、人々をあおりたてて議論をしかけ、分裂させます。彼らの心の中には、聖霊が住んでおられないのです。 20 しかし、愛する人たち。あなたがたは、今のきよい信仰を土台として、自分の生活をしっかり打ち立てなければなりません。そして、聖霊の力と励ましを受けて祈り、 21 いつも神の愛のうちにいなさい。そうすれば、神から祝福がいただけます。永遠のいのちに至らせる、主イエス・キリストの恵みを待ち望みなさい。 22 偽教師の惑わしに悩まされ、神の真理を疑う人々を心にかけなさい。 23 そういう人々を、地獄の火から奪い取って救い出しなさい。あるいは、親切にして、彼らが主を見いだすよう助けてあげなさい。しかし、彼らの罪に引きずられてはなりません。罪人である彼らに心はかけても、罪そのものは憎みなさい。
24-25 あなたがたをつまずきから守り、罪のない完全な者とし、大きな喜びをもって栄光に輝く神の前に立てるようにしてくださる方に、すべての栄光がありますように。私たちの救い主であるただひとりの神に、栄光と尊厳、あらゆる力と権威が、今も、これから後も、いつまでもありますように。アーメン。

To those who have been called,(C) who are loved in God the Father and kept for[a] Jesus Christ:(D)
2 Mercy, peace(E) and love be yours in abundance.(F)
The Sin and Doom of Ungodly People
3 Dear friends,(G) although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share,(H) I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend(I) for the faith(J) that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.(K) 4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about[b] long ago have secretly slipped in among you.(L) They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.(M)
5 Though you already know all this,(N) I want to remind you(O) that the Lord[c] at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.(P) 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.(Q) 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah(R) and the surrounding towns(S) gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.(T)
8 In the very same way, on the strength of their dreams these ungodly people pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings.(U) 9 But even the archangel(V) Michael,(W) when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses,(X) did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”[d](Y) 10 Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.(Z)
11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain;(AA) they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error;(AB) they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.(AC)
12 These people are blemishes at your love feasts,(AD) eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves.(AE) They are clouds without rain,(AF) blown along by the wind;(AG) autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted(AH)—twice dead. 13 They are wild waves of the sea,(AI) foaming up their shame;(AJ) wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.(AK)
14 Enoch,(AL) the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming(AM) with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones(AN) 15 to judge(AO) everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”[e](AP) 16 These people are grumblers(AQ) and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires;(AR) they boast(AS) about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
A Call to Persevere
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles(AT) of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.(AU) 18 They said to you, “In the last times(AV) there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”(AW) 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.(AX)
20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up(AY) in your most holy faith(AZ) and praying in the Holy Spirit,(BA) 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait(BB) for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.(BC)
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire;(BD) to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.[f](BE)
Doxology
