²⁷ And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once and after that the judgment,^(A)

¹⁴ We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up. But God will not take away a life; he will devise plans so as not to keep an outcast banished forever from his presence.^[a](A)

²⁰ All go to one place, all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.^(A)

⁵ The living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no more reward, and even the memory of them is lost.^(A)

⁶ before the silver cord is snapped,^[a] and the golden bowl is broken, and the pitcher is broken at the fountain, and the wheel broken at the cistern, ⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath^[b] returns to God who gave it.^(A)
