Christ’s Sacrifice Takes Away Sin

²³ Thus it was necessary for the sketches of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves need better sacrifices than these.

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.^{(A) 20} He was destined before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake.^{(B) 21} Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your trust and hope are in God.

⁴ For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.^(A)

¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit^[a] offered himself without blemish to God, purify our^[b] conscience from dead works to worship the living God!^(A)

⁹ This is a symbol^[a] of the present time, indicating that gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper^{(A) 10} but deal only with food and drink and various baptisms, regulations for the body imposed until the time comes to set things right.^(B)

¹¹ But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come,^[b] then through the greater and more perfect tent^[c] (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation),^{(C) 12} he entered once for all into the holy place, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.^(D)

²⁴ For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.^(A)

⁵ They offer worship in a sanctuary that is^[a] a sketch and shadow of the heavenly one, just as Moses was warned when he was about to erect the tent.^[b] For, God^[c] said, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”^(A)

⁹ They sing a new song:

¹⁰ And it is by God’s will^[a] that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.^(A)

¹¹ And every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins.^{(B) 12} But when Christ^[b] had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, “he sat down at the right hand of God,” ¹³ and since then has been waiting “until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet.”^{(C) 14} For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. ¹⁵ And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,
