³ Every high priest^(A) is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices,^(B) and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.^(C)

5 Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God,^(A) to offer gifts and sacrifices^(B) for sins.^(C)

² and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us^(A) and gave himself up for us^(B) as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.^(C)

¹⁴ How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit^(A) offered himself^(B) unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences^(C) from acts that lead to death,^[a](D) so that we may serve the living God!^(E)

⁹ Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”^(A) He sets aside the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been made holy^(B) through the sacrifice of the body^(C) of Jesus Christ once for all.^(D)

¹¹ Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices,^(E) which can never take away sins.^{(F) 12} But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins,^(G) he sat down at the right hand of God,^(H)

²⁷ Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices^(A) day after day, first for his own sins,^(B) and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all^(C) when he offered himself.^(D)

¹⁴ who gave himself for us^(A) to redeem us from all wickedness^(B) and to purify^(C) for himself a people that are his very own,^(D) eager to do what is good.^(E)

⁵¹ I am the living bread^(A) that came down from heaven.^(B) Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”^(C)
