Our Compassionate High Priest

14 Seeing then that we have a great (A)High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, (B)let us hold fast our confession. 15 For (C)we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but (D)was in all points tempted as we are, (E)yet without sin.

Christ’s Death Perfects the Sanctified

11 And every priest stands (A)ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 (B)But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down (C)at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting (D)till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being [a]sanctified.

15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,

16 (E)“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, (F)“Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is [b]remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Hold Fast Your Confession

19 Therefore, brethren, having (G)boldness[c] to enter (H)the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and (I)living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us (J)draw near with a true heart (K)in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Greatness of Christ’s Sacrifice

23 Therefore it was necessary that (A)the copies of the things in the heavens should be [a]purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For (B)Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are [b]copies of (C)the true, but into heaven itself, now (D)to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as (E)the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

Need for a New Priesthood(A)
