¹⁸ For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside ^(A)because of its weakness and uselessness

³ For ^(A)God has done what the law, ^(B)weakened by the flesh, ^(C)could not do. ^(D)By sending his own Son ^(E)in the likeness of sinful flesh and ^(F)for sin,^[a] he condemned sin in the flesh,

³⁹ and by him ^(A)everyone who believes is freed^[a] from everything ^(B)from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

Jesus Compared to Melchizedek

^11 (A)Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? ¹² For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well.

^7 (A)For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

⁸ For he finds fault with them when he says:^[a]

¹³ In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And ^(G)what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

¹⁹ (for ^(A)the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, ^(B)a better hope is introduced, through which ^(C)we draw near to God.

⁹ But now that you have come to know God, or rather ^(A)to be known by God, ^(B)how can you turn back again to ^(C)the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?

⁸ for while ^(A)bodily training is of some value, godliness ^(B)is of value in every way, as ^(C)it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

⁹ Do not be ^(A)led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, ^(B)not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.
