⁹ Even though we speak in this way, beloved, we are confident of better things in your case, things that belong to salvation.

³⁹ But we are not among those who shrink back and so are lost but among those who have faith and so preserve our souls.^(A)

⁴ For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened and have tasted the heavenly gift and have shared in the Holy Spirit^{(A) 5} and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come^{(B) 6} and then have fallen away, since they are crucifying again the Son of God to their own harm and are holding him up to contempt.^(C)

³ how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was declared at first through the Lord, and it was confirmed for us by those who heard him,^(A)

¹⁰ For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.^(A)

³⁴ For you had compassion for those who were in prison, and you cheerfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you yourselves possessed something better and more lasting.^[a](A)

⁹ and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,^(A)

¹¹ For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all,^{[a](A) 12} training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly,^{(B) 13} while we wait for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior,^[b] Jesus Christ.^{(C) 14} He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.^(D)

³ remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁴ For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you,

⁶ I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete^[a] it until the day of Jesus Christ. ⁷ It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because I hold you in my heart,^[b] for all of you are my partners in God’s grace,^[c] both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.^(A)
