5 For every high priest chosen from among men ^(A)is appointed to act on behalf of men ^(B)in relation to God, ^(C)to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

³ For ^(A)every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus ^(B)it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.

¹¹ And every priest stands ^(A)daily at his service, ^(B)offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, ^(C)which can never take away sins.

⁴ By faith ^(A)Abel offered to God ^(B)a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And ^(C)through his faith, though he died, he ^(D)still speaks.

⁹ (which is symbolic for the present age).^[a] According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered ^(A)that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper,

²⁷ He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, ^(A)first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this ^(B)once for all when he offered up himself.

¹⁷ Therefore he had ^(A)to be made like his brothers in every respect, ^(B)so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest ^(C)in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

^15 (A)Then he presented the people's offering and took the goat of the sin offering that was for the people and killed it and ^(B)offered it as a sin offering, ^(C)like the first one. ¹⁶ And he presented the burnt offering and offered it ^(D)according to the ^(E)rule. ¹⁷ And he presented the ^(F)grain offering, took a handful of it, and burned it on the altar, ^(G)besides the burnt offering of the morning.

¹⁸ Then he killed the ox and the ram, ^(H)the sacrifice of peace offerings for the people. And Aaron's sons handed him the blood, and he threw it against the sides of the altar. ¹⁹ But the fat pieces of the ox and of the ram, the fat tail and that which covers ^(I)the entrails and the kidneys and the long lobe of the liver— ²⁰ they put the fat pieces on the breasts, ^(J)and he burned the fat pieces on the altar, ²¹ but the breasts and the right thigh Aaron waved ^(K)for a wave offering before the Lord, as Moses commanded.

⁷ Then Moses said to Aaron, “Draw near to the altar and ^(A)offer your sin offering and your burnt offering and ^(B)make atonement for yourself and for the people, and bring the offering of the people and make atonement for them, as the Lord has commanded.”
