⁸ For if Joshua had given them rest, God^[a] would not have spoken of another day later on.

^15 (A)until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. ^(B)Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.”

^4 (A)And now the Lord your God has given rest to your brothers, as he promised them. Therefore turn and go to your tents in the land where your possession lies, ^(B)which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

⁹ for you have not as yet come to ^(A)the rest and to the inheritance that the Lord your God is giving you.

Joshua's Charge to Israel's Leaders

23 A long time afterward, when the Lord had given ^(A)rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua ^(B)was old and well advanced in years,

¹³ These all died in faith, ^(A)not having received the things promised, but ^(B)having seen them and greeted them from afar, and ^(C)having acknowledged that they were ^(D)strangers and exiles on the earth. ¹⁴ For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. ¹⁵ If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, ^(E)they would have had opportunity to return.

⁴⁵ Our fathers in turn ^(A)brought it in with Joshua when they ^(B)dispossessed the nations ^(C)that God drove out before our fathers. So it was ^(D)until the days of David,

¹⁹ Therefore ^(A)when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall ^(B)blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.
