¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest ^(A)who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been ^(B)tempted as we are, ^(C)yet without sin.

The Temptation of Jesus

4 ^(A)Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness ^(B)to be tempted by the devil.

²⁸ “You are those who have stayed with me ^(A)in my trials,

³ For ^(A)God has done what the law, ^(B)weakened by the flesh, ^(C)could not do. ^(D)By sending his own Son ^(E)in the likeness of sinful flesh and ^(F)for sin,^[a] he condemned sin in the flesh,

^21 (A)For our sake he made him to be sin ^(B)who knew no sin, so that in him we might become ^(C)the righteousness of God.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ^(A)though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

¹⁷ Therefore he had ^(A)to be made like his brothers in every respect, ^(B)so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest ^(C)in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ For because he himself has suffered ^(D)when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

^2 (A)He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself ^(B)is beset with weakness.
