The Rest That God Promised

4 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest is still open, let us take care that none of you should seem to have failed to reach it.^(A)

⁹ So then, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God,

¹⁵ See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God, that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble and through it many become defiled.^(A)

¹¹ Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.

³ For we who have believed are entering that rest, just as God^[a] has said,

though his works were finished since the foundation of the world. ⁴ For somewhere it speaks about the seventh day as follows, “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”^{(A) 5} And again in this place it says, “They shall not enter my rest.”

⁷ Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.

²⁶ So I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air, ²⁷ but I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.^(A)

¹² So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall.
