¹² And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate^(A) to make the people holy^(B) through his own blood.^(C)

¹² He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;^(A) but he entered the Most Holy Place^(B) once for all^(C) by his own blood,^(D) thus obtaining^[a] eternal redemption. ¹³ The blood of goats and bulls^(E) and the ashes of a heifer^(F) sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. ¹⁴ How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit^(G) offered himself^(H) unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences^(I) from acts that lead to death,^[b](J) so that we may serve the living God!^(K)

¹⁷ Carrying his own cross,^(A) he went out to the place of the Skull^(B) (which in Aramaic^(C) is called Golgotha). ¹⁸ There they crucified him, and with him two others^(D)—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

⁵⁸ dragged him out of the city^(A) and began to stone him.^(B) Meanwhile, the witnesses^(C) laid their coats^(D) at the feet of a young man named Saul.^(E)

²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out^(A) to crucify him.

The Crucifixion of Jesus^(B)

²¹ A certain man from Cyrene,^(C) Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus,^(D) was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.^{(E) 22} They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). ²³ Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh,^(F) but he did not take it. ²⁴ And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots^(G) to see what each would get.

¹¹ Both the one who makes people holy^(A) and those who are made holy^(B) are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.^[a](C)

²⁶ to make her holy,^(A) cleansing^[a] her by the washing^(B) with water through the word,

¹¹ And that is what some of you were.^(A) But you were washed,^(B) you were sanctified,^(C) you were justified^(D) in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
