Hebrews 12:4-7
New International Version
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.(A) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart(B) when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(C)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](D)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(E) For what children are not disciplined by their father?

Hebrews 12:11-15
New International Version
11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(A) for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.(B) 13 “Make level paths for your feet,”[a](C) so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.(D)
Warning and Encouragement
14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(E) and to be holy;(F) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(G) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(H) and that no bitter root(I) grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

A Prophet Without Honor(A)
6 Jesus left there and went to his hometown,(B) accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came,(C) he began to teach in the synagogue,(D) and many who heard him were amazed.(E)
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon?(F) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.(G)
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”(H) 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on(I) a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
