¹⁶ See to it that no one becomes an immoral and godless person, as Esau was, who sold his birthright for a single meal.^(A)

³¹ Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.” ³² Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” ³³ Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.^{(A) 34} Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

¹⁵ Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!^{(A) 16} Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.”^{(B) 17} But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.^{(C) 18} Shun sexual immorality!^[a] Every sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person^[b] sins against the body itself.^{(D) 19} Or do you not know that your body is a temple^[c] of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?^{(E) 20} For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.^(F)

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral^[a] and murderers and idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.^(A)

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.^(A)

²⁹ that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled^[a] and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”^(A)

⁸ But as for the cowardly, the faithless,^[a] the polluted, the murderers, the sexually immoral,^[b] the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”^(A)

²⁰ But I have this against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet and is teaching and beguiling my servants to engage in sexual immorality^[a] and to eat food sacrificed to idols.^{(A) 21} I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality.^{[b](B) 22} Beware, I am throwing her on a bed, and those who commit adultery with her I am throwing into great distress, unless they repent of her doings, ²³ and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you as your works deserve.^(C)

³ For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;^{(A) 4} that each one of you know how to control your own body^[a] in holiness and honor, ⁵ not with lustful passion, like the gentiles who do not know God; ⁶ that no one wrong or exploit a brother or sister in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we have already told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.^{(B) 7} For God did not call us to impurity but in holiness.
