³⁵ Women received back their dead, raised to life again.^(A) There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection.

²⁷ When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress,^(A) but the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me why.”

²⁸ “Did I ask you for a son, my lord?” she said. “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t raise my hopes’?”

²⁹ Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,^(B) take my staff^(C) in your hand and run. Don’t greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy’s face.”

³⁰ But the child’s mother said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and followed her.

³¹ Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The boy has not awakened.”

³² When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.^{(D) 33} He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed^(E) to the Lord. ³⁴ Then he got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched^(F) himself out on him, the boy’s body grew warm. ³⁵ Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times^(G) and opened his eyes.^(H)

³⁶ Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite.” And he did. When she came, he said, “Take your son.”^{(I) 37} She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.

²² The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived. ²³ Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother^(A) and said, “Look, your son is alive!”

²⁴ Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know^(B) that you are a man of God^(C) and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.”^(D)

¹¹ and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection^(A) from the dead.

¹⁵ and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection^(A) of both the righteous and the wicked.^(B)

⁶ Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees^(A) and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers,^(B) I am a Pharisee,^(C) descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.”^(D)

²⁹ Those who were about to interrogate him^(A) withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen,^(B) in chains.^(C)

⁴¹ He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.

¹² As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. ¹³ When the Lord^(A) saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”

¹⁴ Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”^{(B) 15} The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

¹⁶ They were all filled with awe^(C) and praised God.^(D) “A great prophet^(E) has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”^(F)
