¹¹ By faith ^(A)Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered ^(B)him faithful who had promised.

²⁰ No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, ²¹ fully convinced that ^(A)God was able to do what he had promised.

^23 (A)Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for ^(B)he who promised is faithful.

¹¹ Now ^(A)Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. ^12 (B)So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ^(C)“After I am worn out, and ^(D)my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” ¹³ The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ ^14 (E)Is anything too hard^[a] for the Lord? ^(F)At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”

The Birth of Isaac

21 The Lord ^(A)visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah ^(B)as he had promised. ² And Sarah ^(C)conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age ^(D)at the time of which God had spoken to him.

³⁶ And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her ^(A)who was called barren.

¹⁷ Then Abraham ^(A)fell on his face ^(B)and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” ¹⁸ And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!” ¹⁹ God said, “No, but ^(C)Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name ^(D)Isaac.^[a] I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

⁵ For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, ⁶ as Sarah obeyed Abraham, ^(A)calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and ^(B)do not fear anything that is frightening.
