³¹ It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

²⁸ “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.^[a]

⁵ But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell.^[a] Yes, he’s the one to fear.

²⁹ For our God is a devouring fire.

¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,^[a] the Son of the living God.”

²⁷ There is only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies.
