³ But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins.^(A)

⁷ But only the high priest entered^(A) the inner room,^(B) and that only once a year,^(C) and never without blood,^(D) which he offered for himself^(E) and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.^(F)

¹⁰ Once a year^(A) Aaron shall make atonement^(B) on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering^[a](C) for the generations to come.^(D) It is most holy to the Lord.”

²⁷ “The tenth day of this seventh month^(A) is the Day of Atonement.^(B) Hold a sacred assembly^(C) and deny yourselves,^[a] and present a food offering to the Lord. ²⁸ Do not do any work^(D) on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the Lord your God.

³⁴ “This is to be a lasting ordinance^(A) for you: Atonement is to be made once a year^(B) for all the sins of the Israelites.”

And it was done, as the Lord commanded Moses.

⁶ “Aaron is to offer the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household.^{(A) 7} Then he is to take the two goats and present them before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting. ⁸ He is to cast lots^(B) for the two goats—one lot for the Lord and the other for the scapegoat.^{[a](C) 9} Aaron shall bring the goat whose lot falls to the Lord and sacrifice it for a sin offering. ¹⁰ But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the Lord to be used for making atonement^(D) by sending it into the wilderness as a scapegoat.

¹¹ “Aaron shall bring the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household,^(E) and he is to slaughter the bull for his own sin offering.

²⁸ This is my blood of the^[a] covenant,^(A) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.^(B)

¹⁸ She said to Elijah, “What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin^(A) and kill my son?”

The Day of Atonement^(A)

⁷ “‘On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselves^[a](B) and do no work.^{(C) 8} Present as an aroma pleasing to the Lord a burnt offering of one young bull, one ram and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect.^{(D) 9} With the bull offer a grain offering^(E) of three-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with oil; with the ram, two-tenths;^{(F) 10} and with each of the seven lambs, one-tenth.^{(G) 11} Include one male goat^(H) as a sin offering, in addition to the sin offering for atonement and the regular burnt offering^(I) with its grain offering, and their drink offerings.^(J)
