⁷ In the days of his flesh, ^(A)Jesus^[a] offered up prayers and supplications, ^(B)with loud cries and tears, to him ^(C)who was able to save him from death, and ^(D)he was heard because of his reverence.

17 When Jesus had spoken these words, ^(A)he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, ^(B)the hour has come; ^(C)glorify your Son that the Son may ^(D)glorify you,

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

^32 (A)And they went ^(B)to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” ³³ And he took with him ^(C)Peter and James and John, and began ^(D)to be greatly distressed and troubled. ³⁴ And he said to them, ^(E)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and ^(F)watch.”^{[a] 35} And going a little farther, he fell on the ground ^(G)and prayed that, if it were possible, ^(H)the hour might pass from him. ³⁶ And he said, ^(I)“Abba, Father, ^(J)all things are possible for you. Remove ^(K)this cup from me. ^(L)Yet not what I will, but what you will.” ³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? ^38 (M)Watch and ^(N)pray that you may not ^(O)enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” ³⁹ And again he went away and prayed, ^(P)saying the same words.

⁴⁶ And about the ninth hour Jesus ^(A)cried out with a loud voice, saying, ^(B)“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

⁴ I ^(A)glorified you on earth, ^(B)having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. ⁵ And now, Father, ^(C)glorify me in your own presence with the glory ^(D)that I had with you ^(E)before the world existed.
