Hebrews 12:6-8

6 for the Lord disciplines the one he loves
and punishes every son he receives.[a](A)

7 Endure suffering as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline—which all receive[b]—then you are illegitimate children and not sons.(B)

New International Version

6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(A)
    and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](B)

7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(C) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(D)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.
