13 And Moses said to the people, (A)“Do not be afraid. (B)Stand still, and see the (C)salvation[a] of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall (D)see again no more forever. 14 (E)The Lord will fight for you, and you shall (F)hold[b] your peace.”

15 And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. 16 But (G)lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17 And I indeed will (H)harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will (I)gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18 Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

19 And the Angel of God, (J)who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. 20 So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and (K)made the sea into dry land, and the waters were (L)divided. 22 So (M)the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were (N)a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

24 Now it came to pass, in the morning (O)watch, that (P)the Lord looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He [c]troubled the army of the Egyptians. 25 And He [d]took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord (Q)fights for them against the Egyptians.”

26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” 27 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea (R)returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord (S)overthrew[e] the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 Then (T)the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. 29 But (U)the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

30 So the Lord (V)saved[f] Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel (W)saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Thus Israel saw the great [g]work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and (X)believed the Lord and His servant Moses.

The Song of Moses(Y)

15 Then (Z)Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying:

“I will (AA)sing to the Lord,
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!
The Lord is my strength and (AB)song,
And He has become my salvation;
He is my God, and (AC)I will praise Him;
My (AD)father’s God, and I (AE)will exalt Him.
The Lord is a man of (AF)war;
The Lord is His (AG)name.
(AH)Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;
(AI)His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
The depths have covered them;
(AJ)They sank to the bottom like a stone.

“Your (AK)right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power;
Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces.
And in the greatness of Your (AL)excellence
You have overthrown those who rose against You;
You sent forth (AM)Your wrath;
It (AN)consumed them (AO)like stubble.
And (AP)with the blast of Your nostrils
The waters were gathered together;
(AQ)The floods stood upright like a heap;
The depths [h]congealed in the heart of the sea.
(AR)The enemy said, ‘I will pursue,
I will overtake,
I will (AS)divide the spoil;
My desire shall be satisfied on them.
I will draw my sword,
My hand shall destroy them.’
10 You blew with Your wind,
The sea covered them;
They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

11 “Who(AT) is like You, O Lord, among the [i]gods?
Who is like You, (AU)glorious in holiness,
Fearful in (AV)praises, (AW)doing wonders?
12 You stretched out Your right hand;
The earth swallowed them.
13 You in Your mercy have (AX)led forth
The people whom You have redeemed;
You have guided them in Your strength
To (AY)Your holy habitation.

14 “The (AZ)people will hear and be afraid;
(BA)Sorrow[j] will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.
15 (BB)Then (BC)the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed;
(BD)The mighty men of Moab,
Trembling will take hold of them;
(BE)All the inhabitants of Canaan will (BF)melt away.
16 (BG)Fear and dread will fall on them;
By the greatness of Your arm
They will be (BH)as still as a stone,
Till Your people pass over, O Lord,
Till the people pass over
(BI)Whom You have purchased.
17 You will bring them in and (BJ)plant them
In the (BK)mountain of Your inheritance,
In the place, O Lord, which You have made
For Your own dwelling,
The (BL)sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.

18 “The(BM) Lord shall reign forever and ever.”

19 For the (BN)horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea, and (BO)the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

The Song of Miriam(BP)

20 Then Miriam (BQ)the prophetess, (BR)the sister of Aaron, (BS)took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her (BT)with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam (BU)answered them:

(BV)“Sing to the Lord,
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!”

15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?(F) Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff(G) and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water(H) so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts(I) of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them.(J) And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord(K) when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.”

19 Then the angel of God,(L) who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud(M) also moved from in front and stood behind(N) them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness(O) to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand(P) over the sea,(Q) and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind(R) and turned it into dry land.(S) The waters were divided,(T) 22 and the Israelites went through the sea(U) on dry ground,(V) with a wall(W) of water on their right and on their left.

23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen(X) followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud(Y) at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.(Z) 25 He jammed[a] the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting(AA) for them against Egypt.”(AB)

26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place.(AC) The Egyptians were fleeing toward[b] it, and the Lord swept them into the sea.(AD) 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea.(AE) Not one of them survived.(AF)

29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground,(AG) with a wall(AH) of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the Lord saved(AI) Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand(AJ) of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared(AK) the Lord and put their trust(AL) in him and in Moses his servant.
