Uppdraget att återuppbygga templet
1 I kung Dareios andra regeringsår, på första dagen i sjätte månaden[a], kom Herrens ord genom profeten Haggaj till Serubbabel, Shealtiels son, ståthållare i Juda, och till översteprästen Josua, Josadaks son:
2 Så säger härskarornas Herre: ”Detta folk säger att det ännu inte är dags att bygga upp Herrens hus igen.” 3 Så kom Herrens ord genom profeten Haggaj: 4 ”Är det då dags för er själva att bo i panelade hus, när detta hus ligger i ruiner?”
5 Så säger nu härskarornas Herre: ”Tänk efter hur ni har det! 6 Ni sår mycket men skördar lite. Ni äter men blir inte mätta. Ni dricker men blir inte druckna. Ni klär er men blir inte varma. Den som får någon inkomst stoppar sin lön i en börs med hål.”
7 Så säger härskarornas Herre: ”Tänk efter hur ni har det! 8 Gå upp i bergen och hämta ner timmer, bygg upp mitt hus! Jag ska se på det med välvilja och visa min härlighet, säger Herren. 9 Ni har hoppats på mycket men fått lite. Och när ni fört hem det har jag blåst bort det. Varför? säger härskarornas Herre. Därför att mitt hus ligger i ruiner, medan ni jäktar var och en med sitt eget hus. 10 Därför har himlen hållit tillbaka sin dagg och jorden sin skörd. 11 Jag har kallat fram en torka över landet och över bergen, över säd, vin och olja, över det som marken producerar, över människor och djur och över era händers arbete.”
12 Serubbabel, Shealtiels son, och översteprästen Josua, Josadaks son, och hela den rest av folket som fanns kvar lyssnade då till Herren, sin Gud, och till profeten Haggajs budskap som Herren, deras Gud, hade sänt, och folket fruktade Herren.
13 Då förmedlade Haggaj, Herrens sändebud, detta budskap från Herren till folket: ”Jag är med er, säger Herren.” 14 Och Herren inspirerade Serubbabel, Shealtiels son och ståthållare i Juda, och översteprästen Josua, Josadaks son, och hela den rest av folket som fanns kvar, så att de kom och började bygga upp härskarornas Herres, sin Guds, tempel.

Herrens uppdrag att bygga templet
1 Ett budskap från Herren genom profeten Haggai till Serubbabel, Sealtiels son, landshövding i Juda, och till översteprästen Josua, Josadaks son.På första dagen i sjätte månaden av kung Darejaves andra regeringsår sa Herren:
2 Varför säger alla att det ännu inte är dags att bygga upp mitt tempel igen? frågar Herren.
3-4 Hans eget svar till dem lyder: Har då tiden kommit för er själva att bo i lyxiga hem, när templet alltjämt ligger öde?
5 Tänk efter hur ni har det!
6 Ni sår mycket men skördar lite. Ni har knappast tillräckligt att äta eller dricka och inte tillräckligt med kläder för att hålla er varma. Er inkomst försvinner, som om ni stoppat den i fickor fulla med hål!
7 Tänk efter! Tänk på vad ni har gjort och vad det har blivit för resultat!
8 Sedan kan ni gå upp i bergen och hämta ner timmer och bygga upp mitt tempel! Det kommer att glädja mig, och jag ska visa min härlighet där i templet, säger Herren.
9 Nu hoppas ni så mycket men får så lite. Och när ni för hem det ni har fått blåser jag bort det - det räcker inte på långa vägar. Varför? Jo, därför att mitt tempel ligger i ruiner och ni inte bryr er om det. Det enda ni tänker på är era egna hus.
10 Det är därför jag inte har låtit det regna, så att era skördar blivit dåliga.
11 Jag har låtit en torka komma över hela landet, en torka som förstör all gröda, vin, oliver och all annan skörd, en torka som får både människor och djur att törsta och svälta och som förstör allt det ni arbetat så intensivt för att skaffa er.
12 Landshövdingen Serubbabel, Sealtiels son, och översteprästen Josua, Josadaks son, och de få människor som fanns i landet lyssnade då till Haggais budskap och började allvarligt ropa till Herren, sin Gud.
13 Då talade Herren till dem på nytt genom sin profet Haggai och sa: Jag är med er och ska välsigna er.
14 Och Herren inspirerade Serubbabel och Josua och hela folket att bygga upp templet. De samlades så på den tjugofjärde dagen i sjunde månaden av Darejaves andra regeringsår och började bygga på Herrens tempel.

A Call to Build the House of the Lord
1 In the second year of King Darius,(A) on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai(B) to Zerubbabel(C) son of Shealtiel, governor(D) of Judah, and to Joshua(E) son of Jozadak,[a](F) the high priest:(G)
2 This is what the Lord Almighty(H) says: “These people(I) say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.(J)’”
3 Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:(K) 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses,(L) while this house remains a ruin?(M)”
5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought(N) to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little.(O) You eat, but never have enough.(P) You drink, but never have your fill.(Q) You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages,(R) only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
7 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought(S) to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber(T) and build my house, so that I may take pleasure(U) in it and be honored,(V)” says the Lord. 9 “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.(W) What you brought home, I blew(X) away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin,(Y) while each of you is busy with your own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld(Z) their dew(AA) and the earth its crops.(AB) 11 I called for a drought(AC) on the fields and the mountains,(AD) on the grain, the new wine,(AE) the olive oil(AF) and everything else the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.(AG)”
12 Then Zerubbabel(AH) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant(AI) of the people obeyed(AJ) the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared(AK) the Lord.
13 Then Haggai,(AL) the Lord’s messenger,(AM) gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with(AN) you,” declares the Lord. 14 So the Lord stirred up(AO) the spirit of Zerubbabel(AP) son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak,(AQ) the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant(AR) of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.(AS)

Poziv na obnovu Hrama
1 Bio je prvi dan, šestog mjeseca, druge godine vladavine kralja Darija kad je prorok Hagaj primio poruku od BOGA. Poruka je bila za Zerubabela, Šealtielovog sina, koji je bio upravitelj Jude, i za Jošuu, Josadakovog sina, koji je bio vrhovni svećenik.
2 BOG Svevladar je rekao: »Ovaj narod govori da još nije došlo vrijeme da se ponovo sagradi BOŽJI Hram.«
3 BOG je dalje rekao preko proroka Hagaja: 4 »Zar je vama vrijeme da živite u završenim kućama dok je Hram razrušen?«
5 Stoga, BOG Svevladar poručuje: »Dobro razmislite što činite. 6 Puno ste posijali, a malo pobrali. Jedete, a nikako da se najedete. Pijete, a nikako da se napijete. Oblačite se, a nikako da se ugrijete. Vi koji zarađujete, kao da novac stavljate u rasparanu torbu.«
7 BOG Svevladar dalje kaže: »Dobro razmislite što činite. 8 Idite u brda, donesite drvo za građu i ponovo mi izgradite Hram. Tako ćete mi ugoditi i iskazati mi čast.«
9 »Očekivali ste mnogo, a dočekali malo. Ono što ste donijeli kući, ja sam otpuhao. Zašto?« pita BOG Svevladar. »Zato što je moja kuća razrušena dok se svaki od vas užurbano brine za svoju kuću. 10 Zato vam nebo ne daje rosu, ni zemlja svoj urod. 11 Ja sam dozvao sušu na zemlju i brda, na žito, mlado vino i maslinovo ulje, na sve plodove zemlje, na ljude i životinje, i na sav vaš trud.«
Početak radova na novom Hramu
12 Tada su Zerubabel—Šealtielov sin, vrhovni svećenik Jošua—Josadakov sin, i sav ostali narod poslušali glas svog BOGA. Poslušali su riječi proroka Hagaja, poslanog od BOGA, a narod je pokazao strahopoštovanje prema BOGU.
13 Potom je Hagaj, BOŽJI glasnik, prenio narodu BOŽJU poruku: »Ja sam s vama«, kaže BOG.
14 BOG je potaknuo Zerubabela, Šealtielovog sina, koji je bio upravitelj Jude, i Jošuu, Josadakovog sina, koji je bio vrhovni svećenik, i sav ostali narod. Tako su oni počeli raditi na Hramu BOGA Svevladara, svog Boga. 15 Bilo je to dvadeset i četvrtog dana, šestog mjeseca, druge godine vladavine kralja Darija.

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,
2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord's house should be built.
3 Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord.
13 Then spake Haggai the Lord's messenger in the Lord's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the Lord.
14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,
15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
