Gods belofte van zegen
2 Op de eenentwintigste dag van de zevende maand in datzelfde jaar 2 sprak de Here weer tegen zijn volk door middel van de profeet Haggai. 3 Haggai moest aan gouverneur Zerubbabel en hogepriester Jozua en iedereen die was overgebleven in het land, vragen: 4 ‘Wie van u kan zich herinneren hoe de tempel er vroeger uitzag? Was hij niet prachtig? Maar wat vindt u er nu van? Er moet aan deze tempel nog heel wat verbeterd worden! 5 Maar, Zerubbabel, houd de moed erin. En Jozua en alle anderen, laat u niet ontmoedigen en ga aan de slag, want Ik ben met u,’ zegt de Here van de hemelse legers. 6 ‘Toen u uit Egypte trok, heb Ik beloofd dat mijn Geest altijd bij u zou zijn. Wees daarom niet bang. 7 Binnen zeer korte tijd zal Ik de hemel en de aarde, de zee en het vasteland laten beven. 8 Ik zal zelfs alle volken laten beven en de kostbaarheden van alle volken zullen naar mijn tempel komen en Ik zal deze plaats vullen met mijn macht en majesteit. 9 Want al het zilver en goud is van Mij,’ zegt de Here van de hemelse legers. 10 ‘De heerlijkheid van deze tempel zal in de toekomst veel groter zijn dan die van de vorige tempel! En op deze plaats zal Ik vrede en voorspoed geven,’ zegt de Here van de hemelse legers.
11 Op de vierentwintigste dag van de negende maand van koning Dariusʼ tweede regeringsjaar, zei de Here tegen de profeet Haggai: 12 ‘Stel de priesters deze vraag over de wet: 13 “Als iemand een stuk heilig offervlees in zijn kleren draagt en zijn kleren strijken toevallig langs wat brood, wijn of vlees, wordt dat dan ook heilig?” ’ 14 ‘Nee, natuurlijk niet,’ antwoordden de priesters. ‘Heiligheid gaat niet zomaar van het ene op het andere over.’ Toen vroeg Haggai: ‘Maar als iemand een lijk aanraakt en zo volgens de wet onrein wordt en dan iets aanraakt, wordt dat dan onrein?’ ‘Ja, inderdaad,’ antwoordden de priesters. 15 Haggai zei: ‘Zo is het ook met dit hele volk in de ogen van de Here. Alles wat ze oogsten, alles wat ze doen en alles wat ze offeren is onrein. 16 Vroeger, voor de herbouw van de tempel, ging het er steeds als volgt aan toe: 17 als u een graanoogst van twintig mud verwachtte, bleek er maar tien mud te zijn. Als u verwachtte vijftig vaten wijn uit de wijnpers te scheppen, bleken het er maar twintig te zijn. 18 Ik stuurde plantenziekten, schimmel en hagel om uw oogst te vernielen, maar u bent niet naar Mij teruggekeerd,’ zegt de Here. 19 ‘Let nu eens goed op wat er na vandaag, de vierentwintigste van deze maand, gaat gebeuren. Want vandaag zijn de fundamenten van de tempel van de Here gelegd en van nu af zal Ik u zegenen. 20 Bedenk dat Ik u deze belofte geef, voordat u zelfs maar bent begonnen aan de eigenlijke bouw van de tempel en voordat u uw graan hebt geoogst en voordat er een nieuwe oogst is van druiven, vijgen, granaatappels of olijven. Dit is mijn belofte: vanaf vandaag zal Ik u zegenen.’ 21 Diezelfde dag ontving Haggai nog een boodschap van de Here. 22 De Here zei: ‘Zeg tegen Zerubbabel, de gouverneur van Juda: “Ik zal de hemel en de aarde doen beven. 23 Ik zal de regeringen van alle koninkrijken omverwerpen en hun macht breken. Ik zal hun strijdwagens, hun wagenmenners en hun paarden vernietigen. Hun ruiters zullen elkaar met het zwaard afmaken. 24 Wanneer dat gebeurt, zal Ik u, mijn dienaar Zerubbabel, een heel bijzondere functie geven, want Ik heb u uitgekozen,” ’ zegt de Here van de hemelse legers.

2 七月二十一日，耶和華對先知哈該說： 2 「你去告訴撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞和所有的餘民， 3 『你們當中有誰見過這殿昔日的榮耀呢？現在你們看這殿如何？看上去豈不是一文不值嗎？ 4 所羅巴伯啊，你要剛強，這是耶和華說的。約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞啊，你要剛強；這地方的所有百姓啊，你們要剛強。這是耶和華說的。你們要動工，因為我與你們同在。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。 5 這是你們離開埃及時我對你們的應許。不要懼怕，我的靈仍住在你們當中。
6 「『萬軍之耶和華說，不久，我要再次震動天、地、海洋和旱地。 7 萬軍之耶和華說，我要震動萬國，萬國的珍寶都要送到這殿，我要使這殿充滿榮耀。 8 萬軍之耶和華說，金子是我的，銀子也是我的。 9 萬軍之耶和華說，我要使這殿比從前更加榮耀。萬軍之耶和華說，我要在這地方賜下平安。』」
指出百姓的罪
10 大流士王執政第二年九月二十四日，耶和華對先知哈該說： 11 「萬軍之耶和華說，『你去問祭司， 12 如果有人用衣服兜著祭肉，而衣服碰到餅、湯、酒、油或其他食物，這些被衣服碰到的食物會成為聖潔之物嗎？』」祭司們答道：「不會。」 13 哈該又說：「如果因碰過屍體而變得不潔淨的人接觸這些食物，這些食物會變得不潔淨嗎？」祭司答道：「會變得不潔淨。」 14 於是哈該說：「耶和華說，『這百姓和這國家在我面前也是如此。他們手中的各樣工作和他們在那裡所獻的都不潔淨。』
耶和華應許賜福
15 「『從今以後，你們要回想重建耶和華殿之前的光景。 16 那時，有人盼望得到二十斗穀物，卻只有十斗。有人盼望得到五十桶酒，榨酒池中卻只有二十桶。 17 我曾用蟲災、黴災和冰雹毀滅你們的作物，你們仍沒有歸向我。這是耶和華說的。 18 九月二十四日是我的殿奠定根基的日子。你們要思想這個日子，要認真思想。 19 雖然糧倉裡沒有種子，葡萄樹、無花果樹、石榴樹和橄欖樹沒結果子，但從今以後，我要賜福給你們。』」
揀選所羅巴伯
20 同一天，耶和華第二次對哈該說： 21 「你告訴猶大省長所羅巴伯，『我必震動天地， 22 推翻君王的寶座，消滅列國的勢力，掀翻他們的戰車和駕車的人，使戰馬跌倒、騎士自相殘殺。 23 萬軍之耶和華說，我的僕人撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯啊，到那日，我必使你像我蓋印的戒指，因為我揀選了你。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。』」

2 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the Lord by the prophet Haggai, saying,
2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the Lord; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord, and work: for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:
5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,
11 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,
12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord:
16 Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the Lord.
18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, consider it.
19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
20 And again the word of the Lord came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,
21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;
22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
23 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts.
