1 EN el año segundo del rey Darío en el mes sexto, en el primer día del mes, fué palabra de Jehová, por mano del profeta Haggeo, á Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y á Josué hijo de Josadac, gran sacerdote, diciendo:
2 Jehová de los ejércitos habla así, diciendo: Este pueblo dice: No es aún venido el tiempo, el tiempo de que la casa de Jehová sea reedificada.
3 Fué pues palabra de Jehová por mano del profeta Haggeo, diciendo:
4 ¿Es para vosotros tiempo, para vosotros, de morar en vuestras casas enmaderadas, y esta casa está desierta?
5 Pues así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Pensad bien sobre vuestros caminos.
6 Sembráis mucho, y encerráis poco; coméis, y no os hartáis; bebéis, y no os saciáis; os vestís, y no os calentáis; y el que anda á jornal recibe su jornal en trapo horadado.
7 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad sobre vuestros caminos.
8 Subid al monte, y traed madera, y reedificad la casa; y pondré en ella, mi voluntad, y seré honrado, ha dicho Jehová.
9 Buscáis mucho, y halláis poco; y encerráis en casa, y soplo en ello. ¿Por qué? dice Jehová de los ejércitos. Por cuanto mi casa está desierta, y cada uno de vosotros corre á su propia casa.
10 Por eso se detuvo de los cielos sobre vosotros la lluvia, y la tierra detuvo sus frutos.
11 Y llamé la sequedad sobre esta tierra, y sobre los montes, y sobre el trigo, y sobre el vino, y sobre el aceite, y sobre todo lo que la tierra produce, y sobre los hombres sobre y las bestias, y sobre todo trabajo de manos.
12 Y oyó Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, y Josué hijo de Josadac, gran sacerdote, y todo el demás pueblo, la voz de Jehová su Dios, y las palabras del porfeta Haggeo, como lo había enviado Jehová el Dios de ellos; y temió el pueblo delante de Jehová.
13 Entonces Haggeo, enviado de Jehová, habló por mandado de Jehová, al pueblo, diciendo: Yo soy con vosotros, dice Jehová.
14 Y despertó Jehová el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, gran sacerdote, y el espíritu de todo el resto del pueblo; y vinieron é hicieron obra en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, su Dios.
15 En el día veinte y cuatro del mes sexto, en el segundo año del rey Darío.

Chamado para reconstruir o templo
1 Em 29 de agosto[a] do segundo ano do reinado de Dario, o Senhor transmitiu esta mensagem por meio do profeta Ageu ao governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e ao sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque.
2 “Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Este povo diz: ‘Ainda não chegou a hora de reconstruir a casa do Senhor’”.
3 Então o Senhor enviou esta mensagem por meio do profeta Ageu: 4 “Por que vocês vivem em casas luxuosas enquanto minha casa continua em ruínas? 5 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Vejam o que tem acontecido com vocês! 6 Plantam muito, mas colhem pouco. Comem, mas não se saciam. Bebem, mas ainda têm sede. Vestem-se, mas não se aquecem. Seus salários desaparecem como se vocês os colocassem em bolsos furados.
7 “Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Vejam o que tem acontecido com vocês! 8 Agora, subam as colinas, tragam madeira e reconstruam minha casa. Então me alegrarei nela e serei honrado, diz o Senhor. 9 Vocês esperavam colheitas fartas, mas elas foram escassas. E, quando trouxeram esse pouco para casa, eu o fiz desaparecer com um sopro. Por quê? Porque minha casa continua em ruínas, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, enquanto vocês estão ocupados construindo suas casas. 10 É por causa de vocês que os céus retêm o orvalho e a terra não produz colheitas. 11 Enviei uma seca sobre seus campos e sobre as colinas, uma seca que fará murchar o trigo, as uvas, as azeitonas e todas as suas plantações, que fará vocês e seus animais passarem fome e destruirá tudo que vocês trabalharam para conseguir”.
Obediência ao chamado de Deus
12 Então Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e o sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e todo o remanescente do povo obedeceram à mensagem do Senhor, seu Deus. Quando o povo ouviu as palavras do profeta Ageu, que o Senhor, seu Deus, tinha enviado, temeu o Senhor. 13 Então Ageu, o mensageiro do Senhor, transmitiu ao povo esta mensagem do Senhor: “Estou com vocês, diz o Senhor!”.
14 E o Senhor deu ânimo ao governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, ao sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e a todo o remanescente do povo. Começaram a trabalhar na casa de seu Deus, o Senhor dos Exércitos, 15 em 21 de setembro[b] do segundo ano do reinado de Dario.

A Call to Build the House of the Lord
1 In the second year of King Darius,(A) on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai(B) to Zerubbabel(C) son of Shealtiel, governor(D) of Judah, and to Joshua(E) son of Jozadak,[a](F) the high priest:(G)
2 This is what the Lord Almighty(H) says: “These people(I) say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.(J)’”
3 Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:(K) 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses,(L) while this house remains a ruin?(M)”
5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought(N) to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little.(O) You eat, but never have enough.(P) You drink, but never have your fill.(Q) You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages,(R) only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
7 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought(S) to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber(T) and build my house, so that I may take pleasure(U) in it and be honored,(V)” says the Lord. 9 “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.(W) What you brought home, I blew(X) away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin,(Y) while each of you is busy with your own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld(Z) their dew(AA) and the earth its crops.(AB) 11 I called for a drought(AC) on the fields and the mountains,(AD) on the grain, the new wine,(AE) the olive oil(AF) and everything else the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.(AG)”
12 Then Zerubbabel(AH) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant(AI) of the people obeyed(AJ) the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared(AK) the Lord.
13 Then Haggai,(AL) the Lord’s messenger,(AM) gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with(AN) you,” declares the Lord. 14 So the Lord stirred up(AO) the spirit of Zerubbabel(AP) son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak,(AQ) the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant(AR) of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.(AS)

2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord's house should be built.
3 Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord.
13 Then spake Haggai the Lord's messenger in the Lord's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the Lord.
14 And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,
15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
