²¹ “Tell Zerubbabel^(A) governor of Judah that I am going to shake^(B) the heavens and the earth.

⁶ So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:^(A) ‘Not^(B) by might nor by power,^(C) but by my Spirit,’^(D) says the Lord Almighty.

⁷ “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground.^(E) Then he will bring out the capstone^(F) to shouts^(G) of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”

⁸ Then the word of the Lord came to me: ⁹ “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation^(H) of this temple; his hands will also complete it.^(I) Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me^(J) to you.

¹⁰ “Who dares despise the day^(K) of small things,^(L) since the seven eyes^(M) of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone^[a] in the hand of Zerubbabel?”^(N)

⁶ “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while^(A) I will once more shake the heavens and the earth,^(B) the sea and the dry land. ⁷ I will shake all nations, and what is desired^(C) by all nations will come, and I will fill this house^(D) with glory,^(E)’ says the Lord Almighty.

²⁶ At that time his voice shook the earth,^(A) but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”^{[a](B) 27} The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken^(C)—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

A Call to Build the House of the Lord

1 In the second year of King Darius,^(A) on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai^(B) to Zerubbabel^(C) son of Shealtiel, governor^(D) of Judah, and to Joshua^(E) son of Jozadak,^[a](F) the high priest:^(G)

² Then Zerubbabel^(A) son of Shealtiel and Joshua^(B) son of Jozadak set to work^(C) to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them, supporting them.

¹⁷ The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air,^(A) and out of the temple^(B) came a loud voice^(C) from the throne, saying, “It is done!”^{(D) 18} Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder^(E) and a severe earthquake.^(F) No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth,^(G) so tremendous was the quake. ¹⁹ The great city^(H) split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered^(I) Babylon the Great^(J) and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.^(K)

¹⁴ So the Lord stirred up^(A) the spirit of Zerubbabel^(B) son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak,^(C) the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant^(D) of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God,
