² “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:

The Command to Build God’s House^(A)

1 In ^(B)the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by ^(C)Haggai the prophet to ^(D)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to ^(E)Joshua the son of ^(F)Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

¹⁴ So ^(A)the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, ^(B)governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; ^(C)and they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

^9 (A)And Nehemiah, who was the ^[a]governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, ^(B)“This day is holy to the Lord your God; ^(C)do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.

⁶³ And the ^[a]governor said to them that they ^(A)should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the ^(B)Urim and Thummim.

⁸ and Cyrus king of Persia brought them out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and counted them out to ^(A)Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
